    Heavy Half Capacity

I know I'm bumping this from a few months ago, but I'm working on this again as soon as I get parts. I have a 14FF rear and I'm buying a D44 front from the same truck the rear came from this weekend. It's out of a stock height K20 camper special the same year as mine with 4.56 gearing...

The axle swap is on the back burner for now, but is there a trick to pulling the carrier out of the 14sf? I removed the bearing caps and axle shafts, but it's not coming out easily. Is it just a matter of tying the axle down and breaking it loose, or is there a screw or something inside I'm...

Right around 2", but that's the 10 bolt on there now. The picture is from my camera's panorama mode so if it looks much bigger than 2", it's just the picture. It would be for the 14 bolt semi float.

    Can I use a ring gear from a 41:11 set with a pinion from a 41:9 set for 4.56? I'm guessing no...

    Heavy Half Capacity

Everything I have is fixed yoke. The perches are too wide by 7", and considering what you said I have no idea why. The guy I bought the axle off of had a 3/4 square body project he was parting out but I'm not sure if he ever had it on the truck. My current 10-bolt has two sets of perches, but...

Alright, I'll have to get a couple inches cut out then.

    Heavy Half Capacity

Measured from the center of the axle to the center of the yoke and it's 1.5" longer, which takes the driveshaft movement down to about half an inch (slightly over)

    I have fixed yokes

Yeah, it would be nice if that was enough to make it fit.. And thanks for the measurement when you get to it.

Drum brakes, and I didn't think to mention it but it does have a 4" lift on 35s. I was considering putting it back to stock height when the tires wear out though.

Picked up a 14 bolt sf 8 lug in pretty good condition. The perches are wrong but that's not too big of a deal, and I have someone I can trade my 6 lug wheels to for 8 lugs. I plan on doing the normal axle maintenance on it as well when it goes in. Will I need to do anything to the driveshaft...

By Northstar I meant one of the '90s GM K-body sedans with a Northstar engine. Around 2 tons. I imagine it would be whichever version of the 14 bolt I find in good condition locally that I'd use, the FF if possible. You have a point with the "if it ain't broke yet.." idea so I'll probably...

    Heavy Half Capacity

The short-range ~1500lb loads sound good for what I need it for. You think it would do fine pulling a 2 ton curb weight Northstar on a trailer?

    Heavy Half Capacity

It's used as a daily driver as well as for moving things. Mostly moving things in the bed (dirt, gravel, wood, etc), but there's a project coming up where I'd like to be able to pull a trailer to the dump. I also have a car I'll need to move at some point. It did come with the heavy half...

    Heavy Half Capacity

If I found a used 14 bolt rear and put it in, what kind of capacity would that give me?

    Got it, thanks.

Alright, thanks. Thought they were since it says online they come on some 3/4s, but that's good to know.

    Heavy Half Capacity

How's it going? I have a 77 K10 Heavy Half (3/4 axles, brakes, and springs), and I'm wondering what the towing and weight capacities would be for it. The frame, suspension, brakes, and driveline (350/sm465/np205/10 bolt axles) are all in good shape (just put in a new engine), and I'm looking...
