    700R4 Information Thread

Just looked that up. That should work. Thank you. Also, do you have a good source for a stock lockup converter to put behind my 6.2 diesel? Thank you. There are few local shops here all with questionable knowledge about older stuff. Thank you Ben

Do you have a source for the governor? I’ve done searches online and it always gets off track to billet converters for duramax etc etc. Ben

    700R4 Information Thread

Can you guys tell me what the differences between a gas job 700 and diesel 700 are? I’m going to put a 6.2 diesel in front of one of my known good running 700’s that was behind a 350. I know the converter will be different. But are the governor weights different to lower shift points? Part...

Cab swap years and also cab removal.

The truck I’m building is a 76. Cab is a mid 80’s cucv cab. Both 4wd. Both automatic. Cucv cab is just a shell so all of my interior wiring etc is going in that cab. Front end is staying all 76. The more I look at the two, the more it looks like direct bolt on no issues. Ben

Cab swap years and also cab removal.

Thank you very much. Sounds along the lines of what I was thinking. I’m hoping to start prepping the cab once weather gets a little warmer in March or so. Ben

Cab swap years and also cab removal.

Ok, can anyone tell me for certain any issues with mounting an 81-87 cab on a 76 truck with 76 nose please. I’m not talking about things like the 76 doors take the smaller door panel, the 80’s cab has wiper switch on the turn stalk. I just want to know that the round eye nose will bolt on and...

    What is you headlight setup

Everything is controlled like factory. I just use the factory wiring under the hood to turn on my relays instead of the actual light bulb and the relays turn on the light bulbs. I’m a professional technician so I wasn’t about to pay for a relay kit that I can wire and fit to my liking but any...

    What is you headlight setup

I daily drive my squares and leave for work at 2a.m. So driving in the dark every day. I was looking into aftermarket lights, H4 halogens leds etc etc. I made my own relay harness to pull power directly from the battery and man, my factory style sealed beams are plenty bright. Night and day (pun...

What is minimum vacuum needed at idle to run vacuum booster brake set up

My 350 with a cam has 15 at idle in neutral and 12 in gear. No problems with vacuum and assist braking. Been running this truck 15 years that way. No reservoir just stock set up. You’ll be fine. Ben

    6.7 Cummins Suburban Build

There is no way you are going to get the sensors, just plug them in and the ecm will be happy and run fine. You either need the WHOLE aftertreatment system, or nothing at all and tune the ecm. No in between. You should have pulled all the egr plumbing off the motor before installing it. It’s...

    Is this a good deal?

Up in the rust belt, I’d gladly spend that money if it truly meant no body work needed. Paint I don’t care. That’ll polish up nice with natural weathering of 36 years. Interior needs to be decent though. And rear a/c needs to be at least complete. Can’t get any parts for rear a/c except the...

    Exhaust manifold question

Looks like the piece that’s missing on the old manifold compared to what’s on the new one is stuck in the Y-pipe.

    Truck @ The Garage Anxiety

Why would you send it in for an oil change and fuel filter when you can do other harder things to it? Go get it, take it home and do it yourself. Problem solved. Ben

    6.2 years to avoid?

Just buy the truck you like. Then just look for a spare motor. I’ve got 3 spare 6.2’s and only one 6.2 truck. I am a bit of a parts hoarder and can’t pass up a “deal” though. The fuel system gets expensive but I run a little 2 stroke oil in the fuel to help lubricate the pump. Makes me feel...

1987 V2500 Choke light kicks on, and Trans wont kick into overdrive

Sounds like you’ve got quite the Mis-mash of parts going on. There should be no “choke” light on a tbi truck. Should be a check engine light. Plus, there should be an overdrive symbol between neutral and drive. So, you’ve either just got an older cluster swapped in or other major issues. Are you...

    Big 3 Upgrade

Yes, that’s what I’ve done to 3 of my squares that are daily drivers. I did check the original wiring over closely to determine its condition and make sure there were no chaffs or cuts first. Don’t want any shorts that’s for sure. Ben

    Big 3 Upgrade

I always leave my factory harness as is, and add a larger new cable direct from alternator to battery. All the wiring on my trucks have been “good” as in not hacked up by previous owners and everything has worked. I just like to add the extra hounds and powers basically on top of the factory...

350 Sbc with Edelbrock 1916 jetting?

I’m new to the edelbrock world and just installed a 1406 on my ‘76 with a 350. I do know that you need the chart for your 1916 (I don’t even know what model that is). Each carb has its own jetting chart and you shouldn’t use a chart for one on the actual carb of another. You are not running...

How close are the aftermarket doors?

That’s what I thought. But the way I read his post was that ‘82 specific doors were back ordered. But I’m assuming 77 and up doors are back ordered. Thanks for clarifying. Ben

How close are the aftermarket doors?

Hijacking the thread but what is the difference for an ‘82 door and other 77 and later doors? I know the 73-76 doors are for the small door panels. Ben

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

Such a journey! I applaud you on keeping after it! I’m glad I never had any squares with the 305 but can totally get wanting to keep the esc alive seeing how much of a necessity it is for those motors to run decently at all. Hope all is right with it and you can enjoy some miles on the old girl...

6.2 For A Daily Driver? What Are The Downsides?

I run my 87 6.2 suburban daily. After going through all the systems and making sure everything is in good shape, it’s been a great truck. Drive it all over and have been on a few 800 mile road trips. Did have to rebuild a set of injectors last summer and have a spare injection pump for just in...

How do I know if I have a bad head gasket?

Start it with coolant full and cap off. If it starts bubbling and pushing coolant, cracked head or head gasket. Ben
