But anyhow back to the truck, the shop quoted me $250 for a head job. So we're looking at over $500 to buy, rebuild, and install just the heads... not worth it. I'll keep looking.- OneShot

I found an Edelbrock 2101 Performer intake on Facebook for $100 near me (neat!) that I think I'll go with. Having a bit of trouble finding some 462 or 291 heads near me though...- OneShot

Alright, I think the plan is to get the qjet reinstalled and the truck running / tuned. Then I will pull the charcoal canister apart and do an inspection / cleaning / repack with new carbon. I suppose I will also keep a sample of the old stuff and try to extract any contaminants from it to see...- OneShot

Interesting, at 8:45 in this video: Tyler says that some of the later Q-Jet carbs (hey, I have one of those...) are spring loaded in the secondaries to allow primary operation if the secondaries are stuck. When I operate the linkage by hand I can only get them open 5 degrees or so, but it seems that the linkage rotates all the way, as it should. The "knob" on the rear driver's side of the carb will rotate 90 degrees... maybe I'm just winding up the spring and not actually turning the shaft. I...- OneShot

You're absolutely right, it would. My old lock knobs rattled around in the slots and it didn't particularly bother me so I tried to keep them stockish. Personal preference I suppose. Although now I might go for making a large aluminum set. And I think I'll post drawing schematics and GnM code... -

I /could/ make them out of aluminum. Would have to thicken the thread shaft since these are so thin. It's hard to tell from the pics but they are smaller in diameter than the OEM plastic ones since I thought it made them look more sleek. Shaft is 0.25 OD and the wall thickness before threading... -
