I think I just got screwed. Advice?

I completely understand the issue with mark ups, but especially here in Communist California where I live, we have to mark up 100%. We mark up labor and parts 100% and my pricing is still right in the middle on all of my HVAC work. Our average service technician here is making between $38-55...

    Quad Shocks?

Correct. I can't say the Rancho quad shocks I put on the 89' didn't help (old ones were over 10 years old), but they are all very similar if not the same. I have 18 way adjustable QA1's on the 77' and it is unreal how much the adjustability changes the characteristics of the truck. I can...

    Lower or not?

I'm not a fan of lowered long beds. I only have one lowered truck, my 77'. I also have my lifted 89' V2500. Oddly enough, the 77' rides the best even though its lowered. Do what you want, its your truck. And unless you put a giant wing, and a family size nacho cheese can for a tail pipe, there...

    Frame cracked.

I was concerned about that, and installed these relocators. A few different companies produce them, and they are inexpensive. I think I paid about $40. It slightly improves the angle of the shock as well. Not mine, just a stock photo.

Wilwood bolt in twin piston calipers?

You can pick up a set of calipers with pads out the door for just under $400 including shipping. The Baer rotors are about $150/piece, and I had the hats powder coated semi gloss black. I only did that because the rears only Wilwood kit are already black on the hat. Like I said you do not have...

Wilwood bolt in twin piston calipers?

Correct. You don't need to change to rotors either. I just wanted them to match the rear.

Wilwood bolt in twin piston calipers?

No, I'm still vacuum, albeit with a vac canister due to the cam...thought about hydroboost, but this works so well, I can justify changing it.

Wilwood bolt in twin piston calipers?

I have the D154 rears as well, but it's really for looks. The POL blackout Wilwood master and prop valve look great too.

Wilwood bolt in twin piston calipers?

I have them, with the Baer Eradispeed rotors And they are unbelievable. You wouldn't think such a simple change would make such a big difference. And for all those to think it's not apples to apples, my existing factory setup was in very good condition and were very respectable for their age...

    kobalt 60 gallon compressor

Lowe's is closing quite a few stores out here in Communist California. But, that price is better then the going out of business price!

    400 CID SBC Chevy heads

I understand $$$$ having 3 kids, but I just shopped around out curiosity this morning and found new (open box never installed) complete aluminum sbc heads for $400. That was 10 minutes of searching tops. How much more money are you going to spend in gas putting your foot into it with mediocre heads?

Can someone point me to threads on 350 vs 400 cid

That's funny. I would mind taking you for a ride in my 77 and scaring the shit out of you, all will never going over a 195゚ lol

    400 CID SBC Chevy heads

Sure, if you wanna put the time and effort into doing that with those heads, it's going to be your most cost effective route. But if you have a better design cylinder head, it doesn't cost very much. I don't see why you wouldn't use a nice set of aftermarket, or better GM heads. With no porting...

    400 CID SBC Chevy heads

I know you don't want to buy heads, but I agree with Rusty. Those stock heads are awful! I ran World Product Sportsman 2's with steam holes, and 1.5 Harland Sharpes. Loads of low end power for pulling. I bet you can find those heads for next to nothing now a days.

    Let's talk oil

Ran Valvoline VR1 forever. Then switched after talking to the Gibbs guys at SEMA a few years ago. I use Driven HR1 10-40 in the 77 with a 406 flat tappet and the 89 V2500 with the stock TBI 350

Can someone point me to threads on 350 vs 400 cid

My 406 has more than enough torque without getting silly with the cam. Nice idle, and power is immediate. I'm actually contemplating putting it in the 89 V2500. Want to go 421+ on an aftermarket 400 block in the 77.

    Suspension Rebuild/Upgrade & Lowering Questions

What did you order? I have CPP upper and lowers, with Belltech spindles, and Belltech 2" coils. The truck rides great. I used the Belltech sway bar and made my own mounts, as the CPP lowers won't accept the bell tech mounting set up. I also used Pro-forged for my rebuild components. Not sure...

Help with trying to Identify a 400 ci sbc

Obviously there is much more airflow through the grill in the truck then the Vette, but I've never over heated my 406 with 11:1 in 16 years. Knock on wood! I have a 2 bolt with splayed caps.

    Aftermarket EFI

I've been running Fitech for 2 years now on my 406. Had a Mighty Demon 750 on it previously for 10+ years. It was a good carb. But, it is so nice to start this truck and drive it like a modern vehicle. I hate calling customer support, so I did my homework. I honestly can't even guess how many...

    50W in a 454?

If it ran with VR1 all these years, keep using it. VR1 has more ZDDP then your run of the mill stuff. My 89' V2500 has beed drinking 20w-50 VR1 since the early 90's according to original owners log. If it's been good enough that long, who am I to rock the boat? That and the thicker stuff makes...

    400 SBC vs 454 BBC

Throw it out, that's amusing. I've had my 406 for over 16 years. I beat the snot out of it, and it's never seen over 200*. It is a rocket to about 115mph. The 4l80 will solve that issue, but I'm going to be more concerned with my brick aerodynamics! Use what want, but don't discount the 400...
