    Engine Identification - Help Requested

I'm not too sure since that isn't something I messed with. The mechanic that did the engine swap before I first owned the truck said not to mess with it. All I know is that it's an HEI distributor. The fast idle screw isn't getting hung up on anything after the choke fully opens. Once the...

    Engine Identification - Help Requested

Semi-related: Since my Carb is off the original '83 and I know "each Quadrajet was tuned for a specific purpose", could the difference in heads, block, and intake manifold cause the engine to idle higher? I have M4ME with 71 Jets and 49M primary rods. It's on a spacer (Mr. Gasket #3406), and...

    '84 K20 Suburban re-wire

Any update or progress? I'm surprised the Painless Wiring #20205 wiring harness wasn't mentioned here. Seems to be pretty popular from what I've read. https://painlessperformance.com/product/27-circuit-classic-plus-customizable-1973-1987-gm-truck-chassis-harness-part-no-20205/

    Engine Identification - Help Requested

I was just curious because I'm debating if it's worth new heads, intake manifold, and carb. As much as I love the quadrajet, it's becoming more of a rarity for replacement and tuning parts. For the same price I can just get a brand new edelbrock and tuning kit.

    Engine Identification - Help Requested

Yeah I saw that and it didn't match up with 5.7 on the rear side of the block which leads me to believe that the lime book is incorrect for my instance or I am really really really missing something

Do throttle body or carb spacers actually help?

I guess it depends on what your definition of "help" is. I have a dual plane intake and put a single plane phenolic spacer under my qjet incase it was soaking heat. It created more vacuum surprisingly but the right side idle mixture screw doesn't really do anything unless I completely take screw...

    Engine Identification - Help Requested

Howdy y'all, I tried looking up information regarding what I could find on my engine. Guy told me it came out of an 89' suburban. I have the following stamps: Intake Manifold (came of the original 350 my truck had so...83' w/modifications to fit the heads) - 14057055 Heads - 14102193 "Swirlies"...

We’d Love Your Input — Help Us Improve the Site!

I really like the priority list idea from BlazerBill. Maybe it's out there already but a thread post containing rules, roles, and forum etiquette would be appreciated. I am in between Millennial and Gen Z and I know I'm not the only one. I spent my early years socializing online through online...

    no fuel spray

https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/show-me-your-sbc-fuel-pressure-gauge-regulator-setups.38084/post-928571 I put this together based off Lars' version at the corvette forums. Put it between the carb inlet and end of the fuel line that connects to the carb. Tailor it to your needs ofc. This...

    Dana 44?

I just replaced my (probably original) pinion seal on the front 10 bolt gm corporate diff and found it as part number 458858 which corresponds to the 8622 seal on the National Oil Seal company catalog. Posting here for posterity

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

I replaced the hose, which was a Gates 22187, with a Gates 22013 using Dorman help 14186 spring hose clamps Here are some pictures Before: After: The spring hose clamps I used because I had to buy/return several times to fit So far no issues

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

At ~6k feet. I replaced the radiator hose and put spring clamps instead of hose clamps. I'm pretty sure the thermostat froze shut but I ended up just avoided driving it in cold weather. So far no issues. I still need to top off the radiator but it drives around well for the most part.

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

It was on the v8 setting so idk what to say regarding the 200 rpm I saw. It was definitely below the 500 mark.

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

I appreciate the advice, I was lucky I pulled off before I left my neighborhood. I refilled the coolant yesterday and it took 2 gallons of coolant 50/50 to fill back up. I still need to take my gauge cluster off and fix my engine temp gauge needle so if it happens again, I can keep a better eye...

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

After installing a tachometer today, I was idling around 200 RPM or so when my truck was idling with the defrost on. Could it be that the water pump wasn't able to move the fluid around at such low RPMs and then caused a pressure build up? How do I test if my water pump is failing? I think...

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

So I'm here in Colorado and just experienced the winter storm Anya. I'm not too familiar with engine cooling systems so I'm not sure what happened. I had my truck running with the defroster on full blast while I shoveled snow (so idling for about 15-20 minutes?). I was on my way to drive it...

Engine Stalling - Bad EVAP/Charcoal Canister?

That's a good idea. I'll definitely look into adding vapor traps on the fuel tank vent lines later. Right now, as far as I understand, I'm running well with the new evap can and removing all the fuel filters and adding an inline filter.

Edelbrock 750 cfm or 600 cfm carburetor for 454 stock engine.

Could be that the primary jets and metering are stuck shut. I know this happened to me once and I couldn't give the engine any load at low RPMs. I had to limp back home on high RPM for the secondaries to open up with the load of the empty truck going down hill. Thankfully I was in my...

Edelbrock 750 cfm or 600 cfm carburetor for 454 stock engine.

Having similar issues with my qjet. I added a modified Mr. Gasket spacer, removed the carb side fuel filter and e-pump fuel filter and replaced with an inline filter, and rebuilt the carb with a walker set. I still need to test drive it but if it continues to stall on me, I'll redo the fuel line...
