    Stockvs Ram horn manifolds

This might want to be avoided?: After watching this gentleman, fumble to save a few bucks, ask yourself if forcing the castings back in shape is worth it? Can you imagine the side load pressure on all 6-3/8" manifold bolts? Cannot be good witha few extreme cooling cycles on those heads. You...

    Stockvs Ram horn manifolds

Couldn't fit these pics into the previous post. OEM Manifolds: The frame is no where near as narrow as the Blazer. Stainless? (Every manifold eventually shows signs of rust, even stainless, unless it's 316 $$$$$). You guys tell me what it is? Very cool bends. The only new engine part is...

    Stockvs Ram horn manifolds

Back in the days of fuelie heads, Rams were the best bang for your buck. The way they point downwards for a 4wd and routing the wires underneath just seemed a bit odd to me for my Blazer. We have a lot of stock manifolds get warped here in MT due to extreme cold, so heavy duty castings are...

    Stockvs Ram horn manifolds

IF you can fit the 2-1/2"version RAMs, then OK......... Big IF. The proper Corvette versions with 2-1/2 are un-obtanium. Your mileage might vary. On several truck frames, where the frame is narrow at the engine bay, RAMS might not even fit, if you can find them. The starter could get heat...

Think I found a somewhat rare truck

Cool. Hope you can verify it's special order 454. Would suggest the OEM exhaust headers tell the tail. No Pics, no story.

    Hello First Post/First Squarebody

Cool! Those mountains are too small! Truck looks great. Running boards are probably not stock. Tough to say about the roof rack, without closer pics. Lot's of US contractor's were hired to modify the OEM trucks with "contractor use packages". One of my neighbor's altered several custom...

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

IDK if this will assist anyone, so here goes: Technical Troubleshooting: https://gear-report.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Supplement_7_4L80E-Transmission_Troubleshooting.pdf *** SEE PAGE 209 for Temp requirements and sensor resistance values. Make certain the sensor resistance value is...

3” header back exhaust pipe kit for 2wd?

I have room for the 55 Bel Air! You should keep it here, in MT, where it will never see a single day of road of salt! You can come and visit your Bel Air and drive to Yellowstone on your summer vacation! Nice cam. You might have to raise the valve stems and buy new springs if the Vortec...

    1987 V3500 Engine update

We have the same truck with the same manifolds here at the shop. Very desirable exhaust manifolds. My new Hooker Cast Iron Manifolds, are litterally the same drop from front tube to rear tube, in design. That wa sthe exclusion for the last carb'd 350 in a HD Commercial vehicle. They allowed...

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

Cannot wait to hear your new engine is running. My first fire this afternoon, after rebuilding the entire harness, engine, transmission (in-house, by myself), was a 99% success today. (One lil' drip from a lower head bolt not getting the A/P thread sealant). That's still a 1%-er. What really...

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

You know, that is exactly what I was considering writing here. Proper polishing should work, so long as the outer rounded bearing journal is not cut, whatsoever. If you detect a bent rod, have no idea if the crank needs to be hit in a few spots or might have been accidentally dropped during...

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

The fact you have an option for alternative machine work is a blessing. Every shop for 50 miles either direction is booked for 2 years here. Your idea to upgrade the rods and pistons sounds great. Hopefully the crank is not damaged from mis-matched caps. What you don't know, when you drop...

3” header back exhaust pipe kit for 2wd?

My L31 is just built. The casting on the L31 are better than the older 87-94 non-Vortec castings, in my opinion. The decks look much better around the water jacket ports. Honed it with a $450.00 billet aluminum bore hone. It took a good three hours to cut the glaze and condition the...

Options for tuning of Gen1 TBI in 2023

The option for sending my chip in just got renegged by the tuner after endorsing his process in this thread. Looks like I'm being forced to burn my own chip or go without a chip tune. No idea what's going on.

3” header back exhaust pipe kit for 2wd?

You might be good at 400HP using 2-1/2" with X-Pipe system. Summit sells a great looking Y-Style merge pipe that is much better than a factory Y- (which is almost a T-style pipe with so many 45 degree bends from the passenger side).

Replacing the TBI engine, suggested upgrades or changes?

That's my affordable formula. New oil pump and cam bushings, forged DSS pistons, Summit racing rods, GM Performance crank and no change in bearing sizes. (New bearings at the stock sizes that were in the clean crankshaft journals spec'd out OK). We did use a $400 HQ billet aluminum cylinder...
