'Repaired' stuff shouldn't whine, especially with slight pressure on the shifter. Have your shop go on a test drive with you and explain it. When you need it, it's worth twice the price. I didn't realize that was available since I haven't gone that far down the rabbit hole procuring parts, yet. I am going to check into a set, thanks for pointing it out. -
Compression test
I would be considering another long block at this point if it were me. I don't have time to fiddle fart around trying stuff for the sake of trying it but discovery is fun too. Disassembly should show the why soon enough.- 1979 c20

pulls to right quickly if you let go wheel,zero tire wear for 18yrs.
Toe out sir, toe out. Toe in eats the outer edges. A pull is most likely a camber and/or caster inequality. It is hard to tell inboard from outboard on those pics.- 1979 c20

Won't some penetrating oil loosen it up? You would be surprised what can develop surface rust and how little it takes to gum up the works. -
