    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Sorry for the typo yes I did mean it is probably somewhere around 0.005.

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Its hard to quantify the actual depth of the defects. My guess is maybe 0.05 inch. No more than 0.01 inch. Think this is still acceptable? What depth would be in good faith to run?

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Yes, there is depth to the defects. You can tell the darker areas are lower than the polished part of the journal when you run your finger over it. There are just no sharp edges.

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Starting to mike the crankshaft bore and journals to check for runout/oil clearance when I noticed this blemish on one of the rod journals. Have no Idea if the engine ran with this or if it happened at the machine shop or during transport/storage. It looks more like some kind of breakdown or...

1976 C20 Burb: 3/4 ton fuel system and EVAP

Interesting that some 3/4 ton came with it and some did not. I think in this case I will try running a short fuel hose from the third metal line on the sending unit ending it somewhere near the filler neck or rear of the vehicle. Will top it with a rollover vent valve such as...

1976 C20 Burb: 3/4 ton fuel system and EVAP

Starting to plan the fuel system and am trying to find out if my truck ever came with the EVAP canister/system. I have read one thread on another forum that states up to 1983 3/4 ton vehicles were considered heavy duty and did not come with the charcoal canister. Those vehicles reportedly came...

    Mystery washers

I think you are right. I also checked the transmission mount washers for the th400. Same OD and thickness but the ID is much smaller.

I appreciate the insight but the rear shocks are still on the truck

    Mystery washers

Better question is have yall ever used washers under control arm bolts?

    Mystery washers

They are a larger diameter and thickness than my shocks' washers. I am thinking lower ball joint as well because the wear marks kinda line up. It is hard to tell with the photos taken before disassembly since everything is covered in dirt and grease. Also it seems like others do not have washers...

    Mystery washers

Assembling my steering and suspension back together and noticed these two washers which I mistakenly did not label. Not sure if they are a big deal at all but my OCD will not let it go. I have checked through all the photos I took during disassembly and cannot find out where they came from. I...

    Rust converters and Frame paint

I'm going to try Picklex after paint/rust removal under filler/primer and paint for the frame and engine bay. It came highly recommended over at the autobody forums. Ill post pictures when im done

Header back exhaust fitment for C20 454

Looks like pretty nice work. Clean truck as well.

Header back exhaust fitment for C20 454

hmm that seems like a reasonable option also. I would have thought a shop would charge a arm and leg for a custom exhaust but maybe ill call to price it out. Would be cool to do one yourself though. I would like to find a way to keep the system able to be broken down. This vehicle will...

Header back exhaust fitment for C20 454

Looks very clean I like it. Is that kit a weld together or slip fit?

Header back exhaust fitment for C20 454

Is there a particular universal kit you have in mind?

Header back exhaust fitment for C20 454

Further planning out the build while the block is at the machine shop. I want to go with long tube headers, maybe a set off of summit, so I will need to replace the exhaust as well. Does anyone know of a good header back system for the 1976 c20 big block burb? The flowmaster #17742 says it fits...

    6 Speed Swap

Thanks for the info guys. I will give level 7 a call soon and see what they can do for me. Contemplating btw a 4 speed sm465 or the new heavy duty 5 speed tremec that is supposed to be comparable to the nv4500. Cost does play a factor in my decision. Will probably create a new thread soon to...

    6 Speed Swap

Subscribed to this one. What are you thinking about with pedal assembly, hydraulics, ect? Planning out a manual swap with my 76 c20

    76 C20 454 harness mess

Trying to simplify things with the harness. One thing i'm confused about is in the pics. That relay went to the accessory battery but why does that brown wire (which goes through the firewall and attaches to the pedal sensor along with the orange wire and then to the fuse panel) also connect...

    76 C20 454 harness mess

Just got the truck home and started to dig into the hectic wiring situation. My electrical knowledge is admittedly pretty weak so I am learning as I go. So a little background on the truck. At some point there was a second battery installed (unless some models came with two) along with...

    4-53T conversion 76 C20 2wd

I think it would be pretty badass too. Also, if I could pull off a manual swap along with it that would make it even better. The power those motors make with minor improvements seem to be sufficient for what I would use it for (to haul a race car trailer and a camper). I have daily driven a 95...
