    TH400 speedo driven gear issues

Several years back, I was able to plug in a different-count driven gear on my TH200 4R in my 68 Biscayne and it got my speedo a good bit closer to accurate. Never touched the speedo unit. I figured I could do the same here. Bummer. I have this convertor/adaptor that came on the truck when I...

    TH400 speedo driven gear issues

Follow-up: I plugged the 36-tooth driven gear into the 36-39 housing and plugged it into the tail shaft. Seems to work fine. Problem is: I'm still 5mph too slow on the gauge. (Pretty much exactly the same as it was with the original 40-tooth driven gear.)

    TH400 speedo driven gear issues

Hey y'all, I'm dealing with a TH400 for the first time in my personal gearhead journey and am having issues trying to adjust the speedometer driven gear to get the right value on the speedo gauge. I swapped out the original 40-tooth gear for a 36 and thought it odd that the new driven gear...

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

I'm just really, really puzzled as to why I seem to be the only one having to deal with such an issue?? Thousands of swb squares before mine have been lowered. And the guys I've talked to about it tell me: "yeah, I just lowered it and it was fine". But when I do the same, I have this absurd...

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

Great info, Keith. Thanks! I was in great haste the last month trying to get the truck together for a show about 4 hours away. So, since SOOO many other guys have lowered their SWB squares with zero pinion adjustment, I figured I'd cross my fingers and hope for the best. I made the show this...

    Another "Chevy Lean" conundrum

It's more than 1/2". This is a little cruising/gotta-look-good truck, not a beat-around, work-a-day rig. I had one of those (a '78 long bed) and it actually sat nice and straight - on all-original suspension. Go figure. I do have lowering hangers and I do plan on using the lower set of...

    Another "Chevy Lean" conundrum

Hey all, When I first bought my very tired 87 SWB, it had a 1" lean to the left (lower on the passenger side) with the stock suspension/stock height all the way around. I wasn't too worried about that because I was sure it'd sit right after I put all new 1" lower springs, 2.5" lower spindles...

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

Wow Keith, that Chevelle of yours is awesome! Far cry from the wheezy 307-equipped one I had in high school. Didn't know you could spec them out in police form with the 'vette Rallys and such. Too cool! Love how - for better or worse - you've stuck with a lot of original, factory (looking...

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

I had a 4-door, pea green 74 Malibu as a snot-nosed 17y/o, Keith. So when I went to check out what sounds like a cool '74 Chevelle of yours, I was bummed to find the article is not at that url in your profile. I'd love to learn more about it if you have a fresh link.

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

Yep. I'm pretty pretty familiar with working angles (that video you shared is always the first one that pops up when searching "pinion angle" on YT and I've seen it many times) and how they don't care what plane they're working in - just that they need to be the same (or as close to it as...

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

As in, you currently have your diff yoke pointed 5º down, towards the ground?? Does your trans (engine) point up rather than down? I thought you wanted the two to be opposite and parallel? So if it was 12º up and you now have 5º down, did you cut the perches and re-weld them to get that big of...

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

Hey guys, I feel like I see a lot of talk and info about pinion angles for lifted rigs, but precious little for lowered ones. My SWB '87 R10 (currently undergoing a mild "hot rodding" makeover with a freshly-installed 3.5"/4.5" drop) is up on stands with full weight on it. I'd like to see if...

TH400 (2WD): New tail shaft bushings are too tight. Why??

Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up spending about 20 mins sanding/checking/sanding/checking with some 400 grit sandpaper on a dowel and eventually managed to get it to go over the yoke. Feels wrong to me to have to sand a brand new part to fit. But oh well. Hopefully it'll work.

TH400 (2WD): New tail shaft bushings are too tight. Why??

What am I doing wrong guys?!? I'm simply trying to replace what I believe to be a worn-out bushing in the tail shaft of my 87 TH400 (305/10 bolt rear) and after two tries, I still can't get the yoke to go in after pressing the new bushing in. In my first attempt I used the expensive...
