It’s metal, I posted a previous picture of the top half of the rod that broke in half with the screw on lock knob next to it.The bottom half is attached to a lift actuator. I only removed the door panel to check out what was going on. The lower end was still attached it looked like it had a loop on the end and was maybe held by a metal clip. The door still locks so I didn’t mess with anything yet. I’ll remove the other half in the morning- 89k5Blazer

It wasn’t connected to my speedometer so I didn’t reconnect it... that was my first thought when I got the code. I just wasn’t sure if I should reconnect it since it was already disconnected. I just replaced my temperature gauge and fuel gage in my cluster, reconnected the bezel and drove a couple miles to fill with gas to make sure all my gauges were working. Putting 89 blazer Dash back together
Thanks for all the help. As far as the gear shift indicator I just clipped it on the the plastic sleeve that rotates on the steering column as you shift. I don’t see any screw to attach it too. It seems to be holding and working correctly as I shift.- 89k5Blazer

No, it’s not the fiber optic in the ash tray connected to the gauge cluster. There is a small led like light on the end of what looks like two wires on the left side under the steering wheel.
