    Timing a 350

600 is to low an idle speed for most engines to maintain valve train lubrication.

    Timing a 350

With the engine idling slowly restrict the air flow. Does the vacuum come up? Look for a leak or carb adjustment. The previous answer about checking timing chains is right on the money and is really the best way to check chain wear. An aftermarket cam will affect idle vacuum also. Another thing...

It's not a stock cam. The high idle is way too high by 3-4 hundred. Bring that down as low as it will stay running. 9-12 hundred should be good. It's hard to tell how it will idle w that cam profile. That isn't your papa's 350 lol That will always be a cold blooded engine. Stop trying to change...

I can't open your video. Blipping the throttle to get off high idle is exactly how it works so that's fine. Your tag under the hood or your book w give you high idle rpm. If it were me I would now check my timing and timing chain slack. Check your accelerator pump function and make sure the fuel...

While it is warmed up can you feel the spring holding the choke open? If not you may have the spring off of the piece it is supposed to be hooked to in the electronic choke itself. That happens. Double check that in the morning and make sure the spring is holding the choke closed. If it is just...

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

Work it backwards and let's see what happens. If you don't mind trying something new. If you did everything I described before you have done the basic approach to setting any choke on anything. Let it warm up. How does it run? Rich or lean? Is the accelerator pump working? Is there mist from...

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

If it were me I would have the filter off w full access to all adjustments and all vacuum lines plugged. With the engine cold I would adjust the choke to just touch being closed. I would make sure the accelerator pump is working. Pump it three times. Start the engine and see where the choke is...

Yeah I went back and saw it and felt foolish. Some of us take things for granted and my assumption came from the questions you were asking. Didn't mean to offend you. Best of luck. Bill

I'm going to make an assumption. First carb? Unlike Fi all carbs are a little different. There's nothing that says one pump on the gas pedal does it all. There are variables. A professional carb rebuilder will bench set every carb he does and rarely will two be identical where you could say...

The idle speed will creep up as the engine warms and becomes more efficient. Make sure your vacuum choke pull off is working. Cold first thing the choke should be slightly open after setting. You are doing that right. It sounds like your choke isn't opening properly after starting. As the car...
