Replacing the TBI engine, suggested upgrades or changes?

If your block has the bosses for the roller lifter retainer spider in the valley, you can upgrade to a roller cam. I pulled almost everything I needed from a junkyard motor (cam retainer, spider, dog bones) and ordered new lifters, new double roller timing set, and a stock vortec 350 cam from...

    Busted rear shock mount

Yeah I’ve got a welding blanket and some magnets to go between the tank too. Was worried about pulling the body to get a good bevel on both sides of where I would weld and I can’t reach the back side so I’ll probably bevel just one side. Good call on the washer. I’ve got some scrap steel...

    305 tbi heads on a 350 tbi?

I figured, but my truck is more of a dd/offroad rig so doesn’t see much top end anyway. Just wondering if it’s worth while for a bit more low end grunt

    305 tbi heads on a 350 tbi?

Would smaller chamber 305 heads give me a bump in low end torque on a 350 tbi? Truck mostly stays below 3500 and a bump in torque would be nice and 305 heads are basically a dime a dozen around me

    Busted rear shock mount

In the process of swapping springs/shocks on my suburban and discovered the rear shock mount broken (see pics). My first thought is to break out the die grinder and welder and just weld it back together. Anyone have any thoughts or other options? I’d like to avoid pulling the body off the frame...

    Exhaust collectors for manifolds

I considered them but they're over 2x the price of stock manifolds and this truck rarely sees anything over 3k rpm

    These are what I’m ordering

    Exhaust collectors for manifolds

Those manifolds are basically what I’m going with except mine will have an o2 sensor port on the driver’s side (tbi engine). Those bellmouths were what I was looking for but the eBay ones with the pilots above might be better I’m thinking

    Exhaust collectors for manifolds

That looks like it would work. Is that similar to what came stock on these trucks?

    Exhaust collectors for manifolds

Going back to manifolds on my sbc as the shorty headers leak constantly and make messing with plugs impossible. Anyone know where to find collectors and flanges that fit the stock manifolds with the donut gaskets? I’m looking to fab up a 2 into 1 exhaust so I have everything else (pipe, y pipe...

    How to "Un-Lift" my suburban

2" is out of the question since I already have a 4" shackle flip in the rear and I'd prefer to not replace that as it's just more work to do. Leaning toward stock springs on the rear and 4" tuff country/skyjacker soft rides on the front and 315/70/17 tires as that size seems to have a decent...

    How to "Un-Lift" my suburban

If I went down to a 4" lift, would my shocks still have enough travel to reuse or would I need a whole new set? Not opposed to buying new ones, but mine were done about 2 years ago so if I can keep them, that would help. But yeah, I'm looking at the skyjacker springs for the front and just...

    How to "Un-Lift" my suburban

350/700r4/4.10s so I'm probably geared too high as it is. I keep it out of OD unless I'm on the highway PO welded step bars/sliders to the frame, plus I'm not really a fan of these as I've seen people have issues with them not working well even on newer trucks

    How to "Un-Lift" my suburban

Hey guys/gals, after a few years with my big ass suburban, I'd like to tone it down as it sees more daily use than trail use most months, plus my wife has started driving it more and while she loves it, she doesn't love being 5' tall and having to hop up into such a tall truck every time. It...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Well, so I thought. Drove it to work yesterday to get it out on the highway for a bit and really give it the old Italian tune up. Got back and was messing with some carb adjustments when I noticed some white smoke coming from the exhaust and my upper rad hose was hard again. At this point, I'm...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Figured I'd close the chapter on this. Swapped in new temp sensors (one in the head and one in the intake) and everything's running good now. Sits at ~170-180 degrees with the head sensor and about 10-20 degrees hotter if I connect the wire to the intake sensor. Still no idea how or why the...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Ok, so I managed to get some time to work on the truck this weekend. New radiator, hoses, cap, and thermostat all in and the system burped. I noticed during the burping process though, that the t stat (180 degrees) doesn't open until the gauge reads 240ish so I'm thinking maybe my sensor is...

    350 tbi running too cold

Thats my plan if the thinner core rad doesn't work out. Hoping the 1-1/4" core will lower the coolant volume a little and reduce cooling capacity to help keep temps in the 190-200 range. I never thought I'd be dealing with an engine running too cold lol

    350 tbi running too cold

Good to know. I looked them up and its nothing but negative reviews and people saying to toss it in the trash. guess I'll follow suit

    Rochester Quadrajet Woes

IMO, it might be worth it to rebuild as the kits are pretty cheap. I just ordered an ACDelco rebuild kit off amazon for like $30. I also try and pick up old q jets off marketplace or from the junkyard when they pop up for cheap just to have parts or spares around if I ever need them. If you're...

    350 tbi running too cold

It looks like those tabs lock the stat open once it hits the set temp. I'm assuming they open up when the truck fully cools down to let the stat close. No clue as to what the reason was for it or why it was there

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Your comment had me thinking all day about leaking fuel bowl plugs so I pulled my q jet when I got home and sure enough, fuel bowl plugs were leaking I have a standalone wideband afr gauge

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

So I haven't dove into adjusting the carb since the overheating seemed to be a bigger issue. Timing probably needs some attention too. I think I set it at 12 degrees initial. I probably need to rejet the carb since the truck came from Texas and I’m now in Colorado

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Yes, I had a 195 in there at first, but once the issue popped up, I swapped a 180 in it. I have a couple spare thermostats from just being around these trucks for years so I can try a couple more
