Factory A/C Conversion for '86
I talked to VA around 10 years ago asking their recommendation for my 3+3, they said keep the oem system, theirs isn't designed for that much cooling and didn'thave a fresh air option. Better for small hot rods they said. I don't know how much has changed since then. I've been fairly happy... -

Side markers turn on when pressing brakes
Check the brake light bulbs for filament sag, could be getting feedback that way.- v30

Which epoxy to use?
The SPI stuff is pretty decent. I used it on my 79 ford frame with a 3m accuspray. Sandblasted frame 1st, would have been better (and probably not much more expensive (15 bags of sand) to take the paint and chassis to a blaster guy. Followed the 3M instructions using a port off the compressor...- v30

Long cranking issue
the 6.5 starter swap helped me out, before that i almost always used the manual glow plug switch regardless of temp.- v30

Do I need both batteries?
it really depends on how cold it gets and the condition of your truck and the starter. I had a decent 6.2 in a 87 that came with a 4.3 and a four speed and never bothered to add the second battery, using a 6.5 starter. that was in hampton roads va and it still started during a snow storm, but...- v30
