Anybody ever installed a newer transmission on an older engine.

Have a TKO500 on my 454 in the Impala, bolt patterns are the same for all of them (SBS, BBC). I had the OE clutch linkage. If that's not available, lots of kits to add a hydraulic clutch are available.

    Diagnosing AC/Heat/Blower

it's an AC truck. Power to the relay on the plenum. Everything from there back checks dead on my meter.

    Diagnosing AC/Heat/Blower

Could use some help on trouble shooting a non-functioning blower. I've run through the service manual checks and it appears to be telling me it's the switch. Is it a common failure item? Also, is there anywhere I can safely put in a jumper to check blower operation? I have a live power feed...

    Radiator top mounts?

It turned out to be incorrectly assembled? It was a one piece radiator bracket, the bushings appear to land in the right place on the radiator and the previous installer bolted to the radiator support first and then to the shroud. Impossible to get any compression on the radiator that way so I...

Thanks. Sometimes knowing what's missing is all you need.

    Radiator top mounts?

So this 85 C10 I'm putting back together... I noticed the top of the radiator isn't really held in place by anything and can rock back and forth about 3/4". There's got to be something missing there.

    Exhaust condensation

Water is a byproduct of combustion/condensation. It tends to pool in the exhaust at cool down and then gets blown out/turned back to vapor at startup. You'll see it on other vehicles at startup now that you know to look for it. Perfectly normal.

Kick down switch for TH400 location

Putting an 85 C10 back together that has a TH400. I was originally going to install a switch on the throttle linkage but someone on another forum pointed out that there was a provision to mount it in the cab with the gas pedal linkage. Can anyone point me to where I can find a switch for this?

Need some help bringing back an 85 C10

Towards the front of the engine on top of the manifold. The harness routing isn't anywhere near correct at the moment.

Need some help bringing back an 85 C10

Found it. One more thing off the list. Now I have to figure out a throttle assembly.

Need some help bringing back an 85 C10

It's an 85 model. Got it moving today but still no key + connector for the distributor. About to go through the fuses.

Need some help bringing back an 85 C10

Found both. Will have a chance to put a meter on it and try again this weekend. Today's goal is getting it to move under it's own power.

Need some help bringing back an 85 C10

Originally bought the truck because it had a BBC swap I wanted for my 69 Impala. C10 got the old Impala 350 SBC and sat for 4 years before I could get back to it. I'm trying to bring it back close to stock as far as the running gear goes and need some help to ID connectors. I can't find the +BAT...

Repainting metal interior surfaces? 85 C10

I have a few drill holes in my dash that were probably there to mount something. Anyway, it's long gone and I plan to weld the holes back up and repaint. Did GM just use the exterior color and paint system on the inside or was there a difference?

What to do? Repair shop f'ed up...

You'll be doing well to get a full refund. Get documented statements from the other shop on the workmanship failures, calmly provide your evidence and demands to the problem shop. Do not lose your temper. After they refuse, remain calm and lay out your next steps for them: Letter from lawyer...

Turn signal lever trouble 85 C10

I just replaced my signal switch but still have a minor problem with the lever. It doesn't have enough travel to engage the cam lock for left turns. It works, but you have to hold it down. Right turns have just enough travel to lock the signal lever. Is there a way to take some slop out of...

Help with 85 wire harness on engine swap?

Thank you for detailing this out so well. I am a mechanical engineer and typically run away from electrical problems. I have brake lights now! I was confusing the low pressure switch with the stop light switch and was able to confirm the circuit had power. Continuity was good between all the...

Help with 85 wire harness on engine swap?

Thanks - I'll chase it down this weekend. Incidentally, I do have hazard lights but the switch is screwed up. Easy to turn on, hard to turn off. There don't *appear* to be hacked up connections but I'm just getting into it.

Help with 85 wire harness on engine swap?

I continue to be impressed... Since it has a 454 and TH400 transmission, I think most of those are now moot. I didn't realize there were dual tanks - the gauge seems to be working but I guess no idea what information I'm getting. That one at least is a candidate for finding its mate. Other...

Help with 85 wire harness on engine swap?

Thanks! I've actually gotten my meter out previously and traced no power to the orange wire, continuity at the brake light ground wire. I followed it into the engine bay and it doesn't seem to be plugged in to anything. (maybe) Now that I re-read your response, I see I might be looking at the...

Help with 85 wire harness on engine swap?

Thanks, that gets me a start - no AC compressor at the moment. Power to the brake lights is the big one. I'd prefer to wire it back like the factory had it.

Help with 85 wire harness on engine swap?

I just got this thing from someone who couldn't finish the project and I'm chasing some basic issues from an engine swap (stock 350 to 454). First thing is brake lights, I checked back to front and came through the firewall to find connectors with their missing mates. Probably why I don't have...

    New vehicle in the garage.

I've been looking for a 454 to go in my 69 Impala for a little while and finally found a good deal on a fresh rebuild sitting in a 85 C10. I got an even better deal on the entire package so now I have a C10 with most of it's body work done, no rust to speak of, and all of its trim. I'm not...
