Thoughts on running 10 year old tires?

Buncha pussies. Got these Michelins on my sports car, gonna put some silicone in the cracks and run these puppies another five years.:driver:

Does my 1990 Suburban 1500 4x4 have open or locking Rear Differential?

I guess about the only pros to an open diff are better street manners compared to ones with some of the available traction-aiding devices, and an open diff allows you to easily install one of the less expensive drop-in lockers like I did. The down side is their off-road ability isn't good. When...

Roof rack install pictures. Half DIY basket and Factory OEM roof rails

Fine work! Just remember when loading up the front basket that the gutter rails are held on by screws and not welded to the body. Should be fine for the things you posted though.

Does my 1990 Suburban 1500 4x4 have open or locking Rear Differential?

Open diff. Not the end of the world, but your dreams of an epic mud bogging rig are over. Seriously though, mine came the same way with open diffs. I needed more traction once in a while so I opted for a lunch box locker up front. Problem solved.

Thoughts on running 10 year old tires?

Mine are dated '07 but the truck doesn't sit outdoors and the sidewalls look good. My driving is mostly local at speeds less than 45 mph so I'll run 'em a little longer.

    New Suburban Owner

Great starting point. I agree it would look better without the push bar up front, and removing a couple other things to tidy it up wouldn't hurt. What is going on here? Is that the lowest hanging exhaust ever or is it a second bar to kill any animals the one up front might miss?

    Security Systems

I really don't worry about my truck being stolen. It's parked indoors when I'm home and if I'm out running errands I'm usually close by, like going to the lumberyard etc. I also have a couple of other things in my favor of it not being stolen. First, it's a white elephant. The thing is huge and...

4x4 shifting question from a noob

I always did that with the oem auto hubs because someone told me that's how it's done. When I converted to Warn 20990 manual hubs I wasn't sure if backing was necessary so I called Warn's tech line. The guy that answered was like "What? Backing up?? (laughing) Nooo...that's very old school and...

4x4 shifting question from a noob

My '89 has the 241C. I've always shifted in or out of ANY of the 4x options at a dead stop, engine running, and transmission in neutral. Twenty years this way and no issues. Like Frankenchevy, I have manual hubs but did it the same way when they were auto-lock.

    Sanden Condenser Compatibility

Yes, I’m aware of it. The kit I’m ordering from Rock Auto includes a new expansion valve. I still haven’t ordered the actual compressor though. I can save quite a bit of money on fleabay but have concerns about either getting a fake one, or dealing with someone that’s not an authorized vendor...

    Sanden Condenser Compatibility

I In reading the linked thread above, it looks like Viktor was able to use the stock hoses by adding the ATC6302 adapter. Were you satisfied with the quality of the hoses you got from coldhose? I have a feeling I’ll need their services for something. The odds of ordering a bunch of parts...

    Sanden Condenser Compatibility

I should be able to use the stock hoses, or I should say the stock style hoses as I'm replacing the oem ones due to their age. I'm going to follow the directions @yevgenievich posted in his thread since he has what is essentially the same vehicle...

    Sanden Condenser Compatibility

For those that have swapped to a Sanden compressor and r134, what are you using for a condenser? I've started ordering ac parts since my R4, which has been growling for a long time, finally threw in the towel this weekend. In reading about the conversion, it's recommended to upgrade the...

best 10 Bolt gears for highway and low end torque

What gears are in it now? I assume you are aware you have to do both ends, so your budget needs to be ready for that. Last issue is wanting low rpm on the highway but acceleration off the line. There’s no magic gear ratio that will get you both, so decide what’s more important.

Factory roof rack install - I don't have the black gaskets, what can I use to make some?

I would drill pilot holes first. You can buy self-tapping screws but they’re sort of a “wham bam thank you mam” approach to repairs and not something I’d use on a painted surface. Easiest way to figure out what size drill to use is to hold a screw up to the light with one hand and with your...

Factory roof rack install - I don't have the black gaskets, what can I use to make some?

That's the strange thing, this was a factory installed rack and there are two types of hardware used. The forward-most screw on each side, along with the most-rearward screw on each side, are 8-32 n.c. machine screws. So four of those total. All the other screws are what appear to be #10 x 1/2"...

Factory roof rack install - I don't have the black gaskets, what can I use to make some?

I was missing a couple of them and made some from material I got at Ace Hardware. It wasn't the right color but it's not something you'll notice after installation. This stuff was the right thickness and easy to work with. I tried to find the Ace stock number online but couldn't. This came as a...

Anyone here setup HEI and a MSD on their 87-91 tbi small block??

I’ve never had a cel. (and yes, it does light up with ignition on so it’s not broken, lol) Currently running the stock AC Delco distributor but also have a MSD 8366 dizzy sitting on the shelf. That one is earmarked for another engine that I can never seem to get around to installing. The 8366...

Big Block Cooling w/Electric Fans: DON'T DO IT

I recall somebody, maybe @gmachinz, mounted a big single efan inside the oem shroud. Seemed like the best compromise between the two systems.

Anyone here setup HEI and a MSD on their 87-91 tbi small block??

Like I said, plug and play. I have a vague memory of messing with the coil bracket a little bit but it was so long ago I'd have to pull the air cleaner to be sure. If the MSD system did anything wonky it would've been yanked immediately. I wasn't looking to go this route but there was a local...

Anyone here setup HEI and a MSD on their 87-91 tbi small block??

You talking about hooking up a typical MSD box or something else? I'm running a MSD 6A box with MSD 8226 coil. Using the 8876 wiring harness it was plug-and-play. Installed this in April 2008 and it's still going with zero problems.
