8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

The 383 would basically be a new rebuilt engine. The stock fuel , and ignition system would work well for the 383. I would add long tube headers. A hydraulic roller cam, carb, and good dual plane intake. If you could afford a set of heads, I would do that also. The 6.0's have some issues...

Remove accessories from this old truck?

I would leave them on. It's getting difficult to find accessories for these old trucks. If you do remove them keep them or sell them to some one wanting to use them.

Repopped Fender Badges-where to buy quality badges?

I bought the cab corner bow tie trim from LMC. It was from GM restoration. I'm guessing the fender emblems are from GM also due to the price. They are licensed products. So LMC , or GM resto.

    Transmission Upgrade?

Agree with your statement. I had issues with the 4l60E in my Camaro. The computer would struggle to get the shift points right at the drag strip. I contacted Rossler transmissions. I sent him the tranny and they put a vacuum control module on it. Problem solved. They might do it for the 80E's...

Anyone have a LS swapped 3+3?

The Eddy system has gone up in price about 600 to 700 over the last few years. I was planning on running it, bought a new fuel tank sending unit, and pump. I just can't justify the cost for now.

    Door sills

Thats one nice interior errr. whole truck. Thanks for the answer. I'm thinking of getting the aluminum ones. My plastic ones are beat. The light up ones are cool but expansive and I don't think they would last on a daily driver.

    Door sills

Quick question what determined if your truck came with the black plastic, or aluminum sills? My 85 is a Silverado trimmed truck , but has the plastic sills.

I took my failed pump apart and the diaphragm has a metal tab(button) that the arm pushes on. It had some how moved out of position, thus no pump action. The MSD comes with good directions. I ran a hot, and a ground from the battery to the box. I used an external coil so you need a wire and...

You also have to pump the gas pedal to get some fuel into the intake. I guess Fuel Injection has us all spoiled.

Ditch the modules and by an MSD 6AL box. This gets rid of the coil under the cap the module, built in rev limiter, and built in anti-theft. You can even by the adjustable timing control and adjust your timing on the fly. I haven't bought one yet. I don't see a need for it on my truck at this...

What have you done to your square lately??

I like their products also. They even make a product for the inside of the glass. It's an anti fog .

I always have to push the gas pedal a little to start the truck , even if it's warm. If it's cold i push it to the floor to set the fast idle. It's an Eddy 1406 , pump, and regulator set at 5-6 PSI. If the truck sits more than a few days, I usually have to spray some starting fluid in it to...

What have you done to your square lately??

I really like the steering wheel. I have the same little console and drink holder. It's even the same color. They are a nice piece.

    4 Inch Lift kits

Tough country has lifts also. I don't have a lift on my 85 truck so can't speak from experience. From what I've read the ride will be rough with that brand. It's in the name :). Those tires will be a bit on the small size with a lift. I'm running 32-11.5-16"s on my truck. In reality none of the...

    Rear Shackle Bushing - Replaceable?

Thats what I put on my truck this past winter. Their bracket is a heavier duty stamping. Their stuff is nice quality.

    Sbc dumping oil

I usually tap the bypass port and put a plug in it. If you change your oil regularly it's a non-factor. By all means replace the cracked adaptor.

AC/Heat vacuum selector valve part #

Good luck finding a new unit. I got lucky and found a new in the box GM unit last year. It took many searches to find one. I got the last one from them. I had issues with the plastic, rubber, socket that the vacuum lines plugged into. The part that goes on the switch #6. I found one at the junk...

    Front posi-traction differential

I don't see why any posi type diff wouldn't work. I would not recommend a locker for the front diff.

    Rear Shackle Bushing - Replaceable?

Yes they are replaceable. The price of a new bracket with the bushing installed is not much more than the bushing and work needed to remove the old one.

Looks like I have to rebuild or replace my 350 in Houston area

You could try Thunderbolt they have been in business for years. They are on the North Side of Houston. You are experiencing why most of us prefer to work on our own junk. Most shops today don't give a rat azz about quality. The satisfaction of doing the job yourself is an awesome feeling...
