    Rear End Rebuild?

You are exactly right, I know that the mini spool isn’t the best option. The spiders were not aligned properly and would literally “BANG” into gear. You could hear it a few houses down with ease. Maybe I need to consider having a shop put in new spiders and the correct shims. There was just way...

    Rear End Rebuild?

Honestly, I don’t feel comfortable doing the work myself in this case so I am almost tempted to take it to a shop and have a new pinion bearing put in and the correct backlash (Depending in the cost). I tried to back the pinion nut off to do a pinion seal and my compressor wouldn’t budge that...

    Rear End Rebuild?

Thank you @ali_c20 . You have been very helpful. Now let me ask this, sounds like a perfect alignment is very hard to get, should I be concerned and get this in the shop or is this something that is just going to make a little noise and not hurt any thing? I am not comfortable doing such...

    Rear End Rebuild?

I’ve been looking for something like this for months, THANK YOU! So according to the site: “If your gears are newly installed and still create a howling noise, double-check its preload and make sure that the teeth are properly aligned.” I wonder if it’s a preload issue? Like I said, someone...

    Rear End Rebuild?

So someone had done a rebuild on my rear end converting it from 3.42 to 4.10’s (Still an open carrier). When you would put the truck in gear it would BANG, found out it was slop in the spider gears From side to side. I put a mini spool in and the bang is completely gone. Problem that I still...

    Kill switch ideas?

Well I’ve unfortunately had a few electrical issues, one was solved by removing the fuse box, getting frustrated and giving up and then installing it back again... then boom problem gone. I like the idea of the disconnect for the battery. I’ll invest in one of those. I’ve never run a car with...

    Kill switch ideas?

Good point, I like the ‘instant deterrent’ affect if you will. I do like that. Maybe I do one of those and an electric kill switch. Being 41 years old, The electronics also worry me. I won’t park it inside without unhooking the battery but maybe I’m just over cautious. Someone had the cab off...

    Kill switch ideas?

Great information guys. I am sorry to hear about the K5, that really stinks... I had sold my el Camino to a fella who lived in the city. Unfortunately, 4 days later it was stolen from him. It ended up on an insurance auction which is how I found it. It was stripped. The column was broken and was...

    Kill switch ideas?

Hey all, I’d like to put a kill switch in the old rig and wanted to see/hear your ideas. I guess my biggest concerns; and reasons for wanting a hidden kill switch, are because of theft, but also in the back of my mind are potential electrical fires. Any of you running kill switches?

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

Heck I’m just gonna leave the hood rustoleum white. It was a desperate effort to try to make an old farm truck look presentable in the city... but I’m liking it, finally got it out on the road for the first time in quite a while. Thanks for the help everyone. How she looked the day I brought...

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

Thanks, but she’s got plenty of rust on her haha. Trying to keep the ‘sleeper‘ vibe haha.

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

Thanks! Probably won’t go too wild with it, but the hood is a little bent and has hail damage from the other truck it was on, so I really don’t want to put a shiny coat of shamrock green on it, especially with the fading that’s going on all over the truck. Doesn’t make sense to me to have one...

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

Thanks. I’m not sure I like the contrast with the white hood and the grille... I painted the hood white because it was yellow when I bought the truck. Paint on my truck is like a 3/10, so I played around with some rattle cans and came up with this in about 5 minutes On some scrap metal. I think...

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

Good eye, yes you did haha. My truck was always a 350 but had a 250 grille. Heck I’ll Just send it to you if you want it.

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

I ended up making some brackets out of steel that I am super pleased with. I was able to set the depth that I wanted. I am possibly looking for the center support. Mine is beat up (from me), but I may be interested one day getting a better one that actually bolts up 100%. I did get it on...

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

Picked up the headlight bezels as a pair for $29 from LMC Truck, what a score. The Honda Accord paint that I painted the grille with matches the new bezels nicely. 1979 set up (current set up) 1976 set up (New, what I am putting in) I’m almost there.

    Fitting a 76’ Grille in my 79’?

Finally got some time/courage to rip this all apart again. I am able to rig it in... whether I want to leave it that way or not is undetermined. I wasn’t able to snag the 1976 mount, so I decided to beat the devil out of the mount that was already on the truck and then relocate the trans cooler...

    Transmission or Tailshaft humm??

Before I replaced the bushing, I tested the bolts and sure as heck... they were loose from when I did the torque converter. I tightened them up, and the tranny don’t move no more. Noise is still present. I am really wondering it’s the pinion depth, but I don’t know. The rear end is fairly...

    Transmission or Tailshaft humm??

Little report back to you all. The exhaust on the truck has a grumble to it and was masking the noise if I had it in second gear as opposed to third gear at 45mph. I did confirm that it will do it in second or third. Even though I didn’t hear ANY rear end noise while it was hoisted, what’s the...

    Transmission or Tailshaft humm??

I can move the transmission up off of the cross member a little just by pushing up on the tailshaft. Never thought about that, but maybe that is an issue too Hahaha. I appreciate the help, I learn so much from you all!

    Transmission or Tailshaft humm??

I put a u-joint in it, now both are new. The noise has drastically gone down. Like 60-80% easily. BUT it’s technically still there. If you have the windows down, radio off, you can hear a faint remanence of the noise while driving. If you let off the gas it stops for a moment, Then comes back as...

    Transmission or Tailshaft humm??

Nope, when I had someone manning the truck while it was hoisted in the air, no noise at all. The transmission fluid looks brand spanking new. Truck has all new fluids front to rear. Everything is new and it wasn’t me. The previous owner used it as a farm truck and kept great care of it. Before...

    Transmission or Tailshaft humm??

I just went to the car wash to clean the bottom side up. She was an old farm truck so mud was all over the underside. I went ahead and sprayed the u-joints and EVERYTHING else with the power washer and my noise was about 90% gone, I really couldn’t hear that much at all for a few minutes. I’m...

    Transmission or Tailshaft humm??

You might be onto something... flipping the driveshaft made it worse. I Had the transmission out to put a converter and flexplate in and didn’t mark what direction I had the driveshaft mate to the pinion, so I flipped it tonight.
