About to get my first cummins truck.

@legopnuematic thanks for that. That's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for since I'm a dummy with these things. Reading about them had been a little difficult because I don't know a lot of the terminology so I have to go back and look up what a lift pump is and what a fuel heater is. It's...

About to get my first cummins truck.

It was a 5 speed even. Anytime I was around a bicycle rider I would go from first gear to 5th and just watch them disappear in a cloud of coughing

About to get my first cummins truck.

Thanks @PrairieDrifter. My uncle had it for the last 5 years or so. He's the kinda guy who has more money then time so when something acts up he sends it in. I'm hoping that works in my favor. Uncle said the engine's all stock. We'll see. That's how I'd prefer it to stay but with the added needs...

About to get my first cummins truck.

Only owned 1 diesel in my life, a ford tempo. And boy it was stupid. I never worked on it so I'm not familiar with any of the diesel stuff at all. Guess it's time to get my feet wet. My uncle bought a new Dodge Cummins truck so he offered his old one to me. And a guy just can't have enough...

New Engine time (88 TBI) - Any tips?

Well @Ricko1966 measuring while installed was a little more tricky than I was thinking. Tried to get in where like the donut would be but couldn't see anything on my tape. The y-pipe is 2 1/4 inlets and a 3 in outlet. RockAuto has better pictures than I can provide with the actual manifolds in...

New Engine time (88 TBI) - Any tips?

Thanks. My 91 Suburban has those. I can try to take some measurements of the outside if that'll help but everything's installed so I can't really get to the inside right now. Going by what I remember I think the y-pipe is 3 in, it was quite a bit bigger than the pipes on my 78 K5. I can get back...

What's special about these? Could you expand on that? Sorry @tj43 I don't have anything to add but I'm gonna follow along

When to upgrade from CS130 to AD244 Alternator.

I have a CS144 from my old 99 Yukon I set aside for this purpose. Its been a while and I'll have to check my notes. Think I have to modify them wires. If everything checks out I'll probably use that. Reading your post reminded me I had it just sitting in wait. Now im gonna have to go back...

When to upgrade from CS130 to AD244 Alternator.

Good info. I just got to see this first hand as I used my winch for the first time at idle and watched the volts drop far enough that the TBI engine stumbled just a hair and I found myself wanting a little more juice. An alternator upgrade and a dual battery kit are in my future for sure.

Let's see those 4x4 Squares On Dirt!

This is as close to dirt as I've had my burb so far. But there's dirt under that there grass. Got to use my new winch to drag my powerwagon around the corner to a new resting place. Had my oldest kid steer it and do most of the work. He'll end up with the dodge when I die so he has a vested...

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

I'm sorry I've been out for a while and I'm just getting back to the forum. The Suburbans been running great and I've been enjoying it a lot. Once I disconnected the EGR and through hotter plugs in it it's been running great! Heres the label:

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

@AuroraGirl the testing will have to wait till tomorrow assuming the weather is going to hold. Federal emissions or California I'm not positive what that means but I'm assuming you're asking if it has a cat yes it does. If you mean something else please dumb it down for me, lol.

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

@AuroraGirl, yes it has a 700r4. Vin# is 1GKEV16K4MF526631. I appreciate you looking thank you I'm not that great with electrical and have to look up testing procedures for a lot of the sensors and things but I'm getting better. I don't have any form of scan tool and I've never used one before...

    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

Unfortunately I think it's for while you're driving it not stealing your car while vacant. There's another one where you pull on the door handle and a machete blade comes out and takes you out at your ankles but I can't find it yet

    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

I have no idea how many of them had that. I bought and sold the Camaro really quick and it was something that didn't get power so I had to fiddle with it. I think it's pretty safe to assume the third gen have that. Then again it's never safe to assume anymore.

    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

My 91 Camaro had the same kind of thing that would pull the back hatch down once you closed it. Just for another place to find this type of equipment if somebody wants to use it. A buddy of mine hooked up his ignition switched so every time you turn the key it honks the horn. It won't start and...

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

@gmbellew ya I thought I hit gold when I checked my EGR solenoid and it was bad a while back. Replaced it with a tested new one and I had no issue for a while. EGR works right when manipulated and held vacuum. Getting to the root of why the EGR is being opened at barely any throttle might just...

HELP What is this for??? vacuum... cruise controll

I gotta ask. Too many suburbans? Is that even a thing? Lol. It wouldn't be for me until I had to get rid of a Suburban to get another Suburban because of space. Plus they double as dry storage, sometimes.

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

@bucket good to know, thank you. As long as that's why the light is on I'm fine with it. At least now I can anticipate it. Feels fantastic just to be able to drive it.

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

So I have a couple around town trips done with the EGR disconnected and lines plugged. No highway at all. It runs fine perfect. No check engine lights, nothing. At this point I'm so glad to just be able to drive it that I'm not messing with anything right now. When I yank it out I'll post it.

    Need help settling a debate

What was 'plenty of vacuum' in a number form? Where did you connect the vac gauge or what port? and did you disconnect and block the vapor canister? I'd make sure your testing it properly and get us a number.
