    I checked the heads for flatness with a 24" straightedge then marked them with layout fluid to begin truing up the surface. Used a flat piece of marble, with sandpaper held onto it with spray adhesive. WD-40 was the lubricant of choice.

    I had to order a new starter because I broke the bolt off mines when I was removing the battery cable.

    Ordered a stage 2 truck cam kit from Summit. Came with cam, valve springs, timing cover gasket set, valve cover gasket set.

    Pulling the accessories off and removing the harmonic balancer. I had a few exhaust bolts broken off. Removed 2 with a pipe wrench and I had to use a EZ out to get the two out that broke off flush with the head.

    TH400 What years and models?

    My 87 R1500 came with a HD case TH400 behind the factory 4.3L engine. With the bosses drilled and the heavy duty 6 bolt dust cover. I think I was the first person to open that transmission up because it was sure in rough condition after 30+ years.

    Never heard of the freezer trick before. I will definitely be doing that. I have the big OTC ball joint C clamp tool now. Previously, I rigged up the arms in my 20 ton press which was kinda sketchy. Do you have any pics of this support plate for the lower arms. I think I know what you are...
