Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

Started then died. Started but feather the throttle

Feathered the gas or gave it a lot of pedal to get it to start? Pedal down is "clear flood mode". Could be a leaking injector or something if you had the pedal down.

Might try not cycling the key, but instead disconnecting and reconnecting the relay for the fuel pump without touching the key. Maybe it is some fuel pump weirdness going on? That would just take the power off the fuel pump and only reset it, without resetting the ECM? I don't remember if you...

1990 Suburban oil pressure gauge only reads 30 PSI

Did you pull the temp gauge and reseat it? Might just be another issue of bad contact between the gauge and the cluster housing

1987 Chevy v10 fires but won't stay running

The manual says to cycle the key to on for 10sec and off for 5 sec and the start to reset the IAC. I've had better luck jumpering A and B on the ALDL and putting key to ON for 20-30 sec to let the IAC close all the way for resertinf the IAC. Pulling it out manually and then reinstalling seems to...

    ‘91 Suburban A/C Cooling Help

Even with the blend door all the way closed, there is still a lot of residual heat build up in the core and the hvac box. Vent setting cruising down the highway I see at least a 5 degree bump in temp from outside to vent. I've thought about installing a couple ball valves and a bypass, but was...

I don't know any more than what I read on their website from doing some research. But if you just want to see what the ECM sees at the sensors, how it is adjusting fuel, RPM, etc, I've been pretty darn pleased with ALDLDroid app on my phone and a Bluetooth ALDL cable from 1320 electronics.

You should be able to source a new ECM and swap over your PROM chip. Check Ebay. I've bought a spare for my 350TBI from there. Make sure you get the correct ECM for your year/engine. Also you could look at EBL flash II if you are looking to do more tuning and/or want a faster computer read out.

    ‘91 Suburban A/C Cooling Help

measure the ambient temp in front of the truck. in my limited AC experience on my burb, the engine really puts out a lot heat and the ambient temp around the engine bay might be 90-100 deg when it is 78 deg outside...

    ‘91 Suburban A/C Cooling Help

Biggest thing that affects ac in my burb is whether the truck has been baking in the sun for hours or parked in the shade when I get in. It takes a good long while to overcome the heat soaked metal inside the cab. That being said, I run a sanden with the rest of the stock components and a small...

TBI symptoms changed (new thread to reflect new problems)

Working in that area sucks. A top creeper would be ideal. But I usually climb in and put my left foot on the passenger side frame rail and right foot back by the core support and lean in. Most of my weight is supported by the left foot. It's not comfy, but gets the job done.

TBI symptoms changed (new thread to reflect new problems)

I'd let the engine get up to temp, and at idle, start wiggling and manipulating the harness and see if you can reproduce the issue. If not, I'd spray some light water mist from a bottle around the cap and ICM and see if you get any sparks. If that looks good, I'd be testing for continuity on...

TBI symptoms changed (new thread to reflect new problems)

I think the 2 engine grounds for the ECM are the back of the block on the passenger side and by the thermostat and CTS in the front of the intake manifold

TBI symptoms changed (new thread to reflect new problems)

code 42 is fairly limited, in that it is an issue with the ICM, either in the EST (white) or Bypass (tan/black) wires. they went open or saw unexpected voltage spikes. I'd be looking hard at the ICM connector itself, the wire from the external coil to the cap for signs of spark leaving the...

87' R10 TBI 350 shuts off when driving. HeLP

does it die suddenly, or die sputtering like it ran out of fuel? does your SES light work, any stored codes? might try to diagnose the ignition system next time it happens before you cycle the key? run through the check in section 6 of the emissions and drivability manual.

87' R10 TBI 350 shuts off when driving. HeLP

I'd be looking hard at the new ICM or some sort of electro interference from a cracked distributor cap or a plug wire touching an ICM or any of the ECM sensor wires. With it doing at idle or deceleration (throttle off, slows it down) it might me something that is making contact under certain...

Engine died when driving and won't start - Coil melted

spare parts I carry- bulbs, radiator hoses, ICM, external coil, couple old plug wires swapped every 30k miles, timing light, cap/rotor from previous maintenance change swapped every 30k miles, swapped every 30k miles, small air compressor, tire plugs, basic tools, zip ties, electrical tape...

    A/C only works when driving!?

he said he could hear the compressor cycling at idle, so seems like it is working? although if it is short cycling, it might be low on charge.

    1987 TBI Rough Idle Help!

if you get ALDL Droid app and a Bluetooth cable for the ALDL, you don't need to install a tach. although the data stream is pretty slow, it will usually show the jumpy tach. it's basically a scan tool that let's you see what the computer sees at the sensors, fuel trims, etc. I'd make sure you...

    A/C only works when driving!?

I didn't think the vents closed fully in off (like a loss of vacuum). wouldn't air still be flowing out somewhere (I think mostly the floor)? but that's a good to listen for the fan vs feeling for air flow. help diagnose the motor or the vacuum pod system.

    A/C only works when driving!?

strange issue. but the blower is separate from the compressor. does it happen in any setting (vent, defrost, heat)?

    1987 TBI Rough Idle Help!

do you have a tach, or can read the signal from a scanner? a jumpy tach could be a bad ICM ground or a plug wire touching computer wires or a bad plug wire or cap letting the spark jump to computer wires.

    Cooling Questions and Concerns

I've never touched the heater core lines on my 1990 burb (tbi with factory serpentine), but I will say that the heater can crank the heat out when the engine is warm. And if the AC gets too cold in summer, I only need to BARELY crack the temp slider off the coldest setting to bring the temp up...
