What have you done to your square lately??

My Roadkill-esque punch list grew some, using just the amazing powers of observation and the voice of experience. Just as life is getting, complicated. Lol, I'm going to need the distraction.

What have you done to your square lately??

Be gentle, that steel is really thin and it would be easy to go from tapped hole and one nut to stripped hole and two nuts. Be sure there's a lip on that screw head to contain that wascally wascal.

What have you done to your square lately??

And all this is without putting one single mile down with it yet. In 3 years now. I can imagine that the list will grow after the 'maiden voyage'. Should add remove windshield and check for rot in window area, need to figure out where all this rust came from around the corroded fuse block.

What have you done to your square lately??

I wondered how I was going to remedy the PRNDL problem I discovered, where the radius is in the cluster housing to change direction for the pull wire. Someone pulled real hard at some point, breaking the radius off and mangling the part of the PRNDL display that the orange line trolleys in...

    1977 C20 Heavy duty with 11.15 drums?

I love the photodramatic views of 11" & 13", excellent reference. My helpful(?) hint was do what I did and pull off a wheel and read the max diameter value stamped into the drum. But, duh... The pictures are a great indicator of what to look for. Thanks AuroraGirl, good looking out!

Twitchy steering with a big travel trailer (rear sway bar help?)

Unless ordered on SRW in the camper special world, perhaps part of Z83 on the glovebox list for 1979. That feature along with the big block is what sold me on it originally.

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Have you considered a quarter wave ground plane for your home station? Easy to make out of copper wire, an SO-239 jack and some masons twine. Or use a 102" whip like I did off the tool truck. Like this

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Most coil arrangements result in tight bandwidth making them less attractive, but will certainly still work for relatively short range comms. GTFE (good tf enough) for trail ops or a highway convoy. Plus, not banging on every tree branch, catv drop and drive through in existence has an...

Help! My coolant temp heats up fast in idle or slow-moving traffic (around 210F+) then decreases when I start driving (around 170F-190)

Either low fan throughput, lack of proper shroud or a bit of coolant flow restriction.

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

If you can get your "just a dipole" out in the clear, as high as possible, you will be surprised how well it works. Vertical polarization is best for mobiles, horizontal polarization is best for distance. Now is solar maximum, best chance for distance (dx).

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

I can tell you from personal experience that with a 102" mounted on the roof center has a wonderful pattern, but it will find every tree limb and low overhang and drive through becomes a distant memory. A friend wanted to try it on his class c motor home and discovered it hit all the phone line...

    2 post shop lift

Your thread has me noodling the nuances of proper lift installation. As a lift user, I always thought it was laughable how 8 bolts keeps all that potential energy in check, and for the most part it does. My brain goes to a concrete submerged steel matrix that connects with the lift much like...

    STEERING COLUMN

An example of the lower bearing and it's holder not being properly spaced. I ended up tapping the shaft (and the bearing) towards the steering wheel to take up the gap (the shaft has a collapse feature that can get out of adjustment).

    STEERING COLUMN

Picture 1, that is a bearing that loves to get drier than a popcorn fart and make noise. It looks like its riding in its plastic housing good (no excess gap I can see) so it's probably the ball bearings part without lube. Number 67 on the blow ups. Might get lucky with some spray moly, I used...
