Where can I get an OEM thermostat for a 1974 Chevy C10 with a 454?

This is true, but this is always my quandary on reboxed parts. Are they built to the same specifications? We know Wix makes both Napa filter lines and carquest filters and Microgard, but we also know from independent oil filter test that they are not all the same. Wix branded filters and the...

Where can I get an OEM thermostat for a 1974 Chevy C10 with a 454?

That's a really good question. IDK what the deal is with motorad, they have always been crappy. When they bought out stant I thought they'd improve, but now the stant name is gone and motorad is the same poor quality, although now motorad is much easier to find :(. Murray thermostats are...

Where can I get an OEM thermostat for a 1974 Chevy C10 with a 454?

Earlier I said that the A/C Delco stats were out of production and I guess I was wrong. We have a wholesale supplier at the shop that is an A/C Delco distributor and I was told a few years ago that they were out of production for these trucks, but obviously I was given bad information, thank...

What have you done to your square lately??

My answer is it depends on how bad it is. It is much, much easier to keep an engine bay clean than to try to scrape years of build up off. So for my monthly (I don't really keep track but roughly about once a month), underhood cleanings I use a couple of rags and a product called silk shine by...

Where can I get an OEM thermostat for a 1974 Chevy C10 with a 454?

I agree with that. You won't find A/C Delco or Delco branded thermostats anymore for these trucks they are long out of production and sadly stat brand is gone too. I'd probably pick gates over motorad, and premium over economy. EDIT: UPDATE, I was wrong about the A/C Delco stats being out of...

    Adding 81-82 bumper fog lights

I have head of guys doing that, but I've never seen the install so I'm not of much help, but. If I were doing it, I'd leave the OEM lens in the bumper and install a pair of Hella 450's or 550's whichever is the closest size to the opening right behind it. Aiming them would be a pain due to...

    Small Block Lifter Premature Wear

Right that's a really good point to and is part of the reason most cam manufactures recommend that you fire the motor and run it to 2K for 20 minutes. And you HAVE to have enough zinc in the oil during this process. Some will want you to shut the engine off let it cool for a bit and then do...

    Small Block Lifter Premature Wear

I'm seeing this thread kind of late but I want to reiterate a few points. Yea, oil has changed in leaps and bounds and in many ways it's been good. We see very, very few engines with sludge issues, where it use to be common place, I'd say that's the biggest plus to the changes. But zinc...

1996 Grand Cherokee transmission rebuild & on to other stuff

I agree. Honestly my favorite thing about the sunroof both in the Jeep and the wife's van is the amount of extra light it lets in the vehicle on cloudy days. The only time I shut the sunshade is when it's hot enough to run the A/C.

    Door Hinge Pins Not Seating?

I've hammered them in before, sometimes that works sometimes you beat them to death or shatter the bushing. The correct way is to use a press, with the hinges off the truck but who wants to do that? If you can get a ball joint press or something similar (you should be able to barrow a ball...

Hard Start when engine is warm.

I second that concern as well. If the carb is setup so rich that it fires up cold just fine then it's running to rich, more than likely and that could be part of your hot start problem as well. I think if it were me and I did not have the ability to tune a carburetor myself, and I don't just...

Hard Start when engine is warm.

The metal fuel line is somewhat reflective to heat where as rubber line will soak in the heat and that is part of what Eric is saying. If after you shut it off the rubber line absorbs enough heat, it can boil the fuel in the line causing the pressure in the line to go up forcing fuel past the...

Hard Start when engine is warm.

I agree with the boiling / percolation thing. Also if your heat riser is stuck shut or partially shut that will exacerbate it. If your running an aftermarket carb (or even the factory one) a phenolic heat spacer can make a big difference.

1996 Grand Cherokee transmission rebuild & on to other stuff

I wasn't sure and you got someone involved that knows. Thanks. Right I know regluing failed material is a band aid at best. In the case of the sunshade I did it because it was hanging down and really didn't know what else to do. I figured the only way to get the panel out was to pull the...

1996 Grand Cherokee transmission rebuild & on to other stuff

Ok I could use some ideas here. The headliner in the Jeep has become somewhat of a problem. Specifically the shade for the sunroof. The headliner material wraps around the "board" or shade, and it's been impossible to get it wrapped back around. I've reglued the fabric a couple of times, but...

    Heater Core how to

If the summit unit works for you please post the info. I was not crazy about the fitment of the NAPA unit, but it didn't hit the case for me, either.

    Heater Core how to

Yup, And let me tell you the aftermarkets and the OE are NOT identical! Kind of ticks me off. I'm sure that going from copper to aluminum they probably had to be changed a little to keep them strong but gee. The one I used the issue was that it's width was a tiny bit narrower so I had to seal...

    Tank Selector switch Installation

@TruckCo I've worked on the tank switches plenty on these trucks, and I think it's shoved in from the front after assembly, but I also know they used at least two different switches, and if your truck is fuel injected then that makes 3 different switches because the TBI switches are unique to...

What should I sell engine & tranny for?

The one good thing is that gas prices would go down when I leave the Puget sound area and not get back to $5.20 a gallon for regular until I got back, so all those dollars spent in gas would feel like a deal!

What should I sell engine & tranny for?

It would be fun especially described the way I just did, me, the dog, a square body suburban.

What should I sell engine & tranny for?

If I was single man and didn't have the farm I'd load the dog in the square body suburban I don't own but would if I was single and I'd make the trip for fun, and it would be a blast. But I'm not single, I have a farm that needs me, and a wife that does as well, so it's a no go. Sorry.
