Replacing rear axle on 83 k5
What do you think about the 10 bolt behind the 454 and 35s? rather not put money into it if I will end up blowing it up in a few months anyway? I’m really not interested in getting 8 lug wheels so staying with the 10 ( or 12?) would help me there?- BryanS

Thank you Guy mentioned that there might be a kit to get the old bolt out. I understand needing same ratio front and back…was kind of thinking if I got an Axle in rear with stiffer gears I would then get the same gears for front axle So do I get the bolt out, buy (2) gear set or do I buy...- BryanS

I don’t know :) going by what mechanic told me. I trust the shop for both honesty and knowledge. He told me they went to remove a bolt so they could remove the axle but it was already broken off. Said it could be drilled out but if I was looking for gears anyway it might be better to get a new...- BryanS

My k5 has a 10 bolt rear The truck has a 454 6” lift and rides on 35s I’ll looking for stiffer gears …Probally 4:10s One seal is leaking and can’t get the axel out because there is a broken screw the lag guy left me with. SO I’m thinking about finding an upgrade. 14 bolt already with the...- BryanS

Yeah I had plastic. Was easy fix and the old one had bits of rubber coming out of the piston -

Stalling Issue
I’m following. Have basicly the same problem. Idles like crap.kinda like a really big cam. In gear at a stop it wants to stall. Just bought this truck and dont know the history. Someone swapped in a 454 into a k 5- BryanS

K5 almost killed me brakes to the floor
The old master had bits of rubber coming out around the piston so I’m assuming it was No good. I think I have a blown wheel cylinder too b/c there is fluid leaking from a drum. Yeah I was going to bleed everything until it it ran clear. -

Thanks. It just looked weird to me. I think I have a vacuum problem as the low idle is pretty loopy like it had a huge cam. Does Mean anything the black check valve was a little oily? Got my new MC installed and going to bleed everything now Really appreciate your help -

I’m generally not looking to changes things for the sake of changing them BUT after yesterday I need to be confident that I have brakes:) I’ll buy gold brake lines if in my head they will help me stop do you know what this is? It’s on the vaccume line before the booster check. Is kind of oily... -

Truck drove from Alabama to FL 2 weeks ago. Lost the radiator along the way but otherwise went well. I’m going to go piece by piece and do the lines, calipers, drums, parking brake….maybe rig an anchor I can deploy in emergencies -

Thank you for the quick response! Yes master was full. I know the booster will not make pedal soft but I thought if I had the master off now would be the time for the booster. That said I would much rather have an ugly booster that works than a pretty one that does not Stupid question… how do... -

New to me 82 k5 Brakes went to the floor and stayed there. Tried lifting pedal with my foot to pump them….nothing I just happened to not wreck and was able to get back to my driveway. Pretty lucky because I was about to beat on the truck to see how she ran after playing g with the carb. Don’t... -

I really don’t know what anyone did prior. I’m super smart and bough this truck without even seeing it. This VIN said it was an 82 with a diesel. The body is perfect no rust nothing soft straight and clean. Except the doors are sagging 700r4 And a big block I’m assuming is a 454 because...- BryanS
