    Diagnosing mysterious sound from Tran/Tcase

Check the trans torque converter bolts that mount it to the flex plate. They sometimes come loose.

    fluid change

Yes, this is what happens when you mix in the wrong transmission fluid.
  3. Turbo4whl

    fluid change

When you remove the trans pan and filter, you only change about half the fluid. The converter and shift pistons hold the rest. MOST IMPORTANT, use the correct trans fluid. The parts house may want to sell Dex-Merc. How can one fluid be good for 3 GM and 4 Ford types? It can't. Your trans needs...

Sbc to bbc fan shroud issues

On my 1982 small block to big block swap, I used a 6 cyl radiator top mount. More of a guard than a shroud, it holds the radiator fine. Added a small metal L bracket to match the hole spacing. The fan, 7 blade clutch fan, from the sedan the rat motor came out of. No over heat problems

    Sony XR-77

Back story for anyone reading this thread. Back in the late 1970's I went to a Sight and Sound show with the sole purpose of getting a radio for my wife's new TR7. This was a very large show in Philadelphia and all the players were there, Murantz, Alpine Sony, many more as well as all the TV...

Show off your non-square project cars.

Yea, this fails PA safety inspection. For the young ones that don't know about scrub line. Scrub line is an imaginary line from the bottom of each wheel, front to back and side to side. No part of the suspension or frame may be below that line. Exception, the exhaust system.

    Questions on carb upgrade

No. Not all 1974's have HEI distributors. Some came with point distributors. IF this is the case the point type need to have the the resistor wire replaced. Since you are south, the choke is not as critical as us up in the rust belt. 1974 would have a divorced by-metal spring choke. Other old...

@Ricko1966 Didn't want to tie up the OP's post. Yes I am sure I have the face plate and knobs. I never used the face plate. I will look for every thing.

    Original AM/FM Cassette

So I have this I'll never do anything with. Started eating tapes, then lost a channel. If you're interested. I'll look for the knobs. 3 each stem, 1 dummy. RCA pre-amp out.

    Intake manifold and stripped bolt

My point, but probably misunderstood, is pipe dope (Teflon sealant) is not the best sealer for coolant.

    Intake manifold and stripped bolt

Hey Moody, Welcome to the forum! You must be old like me. Number 2 Permatex is the go to for sealing engine coolant, silicone sealer is over rated. About the Teflon pipe sealant, I use that for high pressure pipe threads (hydraulic oil). The difference is, I apply an activator. LocTite primer...

    broken spark plug

This is correct.^^^ Heating a small section of cast to color, could have ill effects on the head.
  19. Turbo4whl

    broken spark plug

In this case, you are not heating a nut, you are heating a cast iron head. It can and will expand. The only way it can move is closer to the plug. Heating the plug it expands pushing on the cast, and closing the hole drilled in the middle. While you hammer in the extractor it cools. The push...

Time traveler with a squarebody. My clock is ticking backwards.

This mock-up model has sound too! Expensive, but I guess people buy this stuff. Find them on Ebay and Amazon.
  21. Turbo4whl

    broken spark plug

First, don't heat with the extractor already in. Extractors are hardened and melt at a lower temperature. Since you have the oxy-acetylene, use that. Bring some color up in the spark plug stump. Hammer in the extractor.
  22. Turbo4whl

    broken spark plug

The metal shavings from drilling will not be an issue. Use the Ridgid style screw extractors. Drill the correct size hole. Heat the plug, then hammer in the extractor.

    82 style bunper fog lights

LED bulbs do not always work well as side light markers in old GM vehicles. This is because of how the side markers are wired. Some brands of brake cleaner will affect the plastic. Brake clean is for brakes. Use plastic safe contact cleaner on light bulb sockets.
