    Harbor Freight Table and carts

I bought these a few weeks ago and thought I would show them as I like them and a good addition to my shop. Using big bench for teardown, carts for new parts, and the other for shop towels, waxes etc. 115 ea for the benches, 85 ea for carts. Yes assembly required for. I bought a 8'x24" piece of...

    Mar-K Truck Toolbox for Stepside

Watching as I sold mine in the farm auction for like 10 bucks...I want one that mounts on the back side behind the wheel wheel, and no wider. Just for a bottle of anti freeze, oil, towels, jumper cables and some tools. May have to make it.

It’s Mom day, so stop by and visit with my bros and fam. Off the hook seafood truck in Selah today, so f & chips for lunch, one of those small blessings. Could not find a crank snout turning tool, so gotta go to summit. Snowing...

The original Melling pump is high volume high pressure, which takes more hp to run. Generally if the engine has correct clearances, the standard volume pump will start to bypass around 2000 rpm’s. I will buy another Melling M77 pump and modify it. You can buy them with three different springs...

These Wiseco pistons use a .078 wide top and second chrome moly ring set. This is how to check bolt streach. Short block FINALLY done.

Double spiral locks are a pain to install, but after 18, I am good at it. Use a stone to deburr rings. Wiseco uses this ring spacer for support over the pin area, common practice. I also polish each ring with green scotchbrite until it is super smooth.

There is not to much to know about piston and rod assembly except the big chamfer on the one side of the rod will go to the outside of the crank. The reason is that these new cranks have a radius and the chamfer is for clearance. Other then that, just have to have the piston dome towards the...

Having a heck of a time with crank end play, but think I have it, was no play, so removed 5th main (where the end play is determined) and sanded them on a piece of thick tempered glass, because it is flat, and cheap. Here are the piston and rod set up. Hate the double spirolocks, a pita to...

Journey of a Gen VI 454 Rebuild. Reluctor Ring Issue. Need help!

Big block crank are the same from 1970-2000, so any balancer will work, however they make several different od sizes. Find one that fits your budget, and quality standards. Make sure to install is correctly, NOT with a hammer. Here is a selection...

It's Thursday and had a little shop time. Block is clean now, and was able to install the crank and get it all torqued down. Got the valve covers back from the powder coater, and I like them. Was a beautiful day, pic off my front porch.

My mufflers are Holly Aero-Chamber, Headers are Flow Master 1 7/8 for a chevelle. It is what I orignally ran on the mostly stock 454. Exhaust is 3" and really like the sound of the system, and it's going to sound lots better with the higher compression.

Tomorrow is town day, and visit Mom, so probably not any shop time. The machine shop should have checked this, BUTTT, I am the one doing the assembly... Soo if you are doing this, check the cam in the bearing before installing the freeze plug, as that gives you easy access to the back bearing...

Some done today. Back cam bearing was too tight, unfortunately I had installed the crank. Fortunately the crank spun so nice , but I pulled it and was able to hone/ scrape in the back bearing. Also took some out of the second to back, as it was too snug. Anyway cam is now good. I did install the...

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

I run the thinnest oil I can, determined by mechanical clearances in your engine. I use Schaffer. Do not over fill the pan. I generally leave mine 1/2 qt. Low and watch my oil pressure. I go to great lengths to keep the oil off the crank, drilling two extra holes in the front of the block and...
