So you didn't have the transmission apart? I just bought a tone ring for $10 and installed it on the rear output on mine when I had it apart. I'm using the dakota digital adapter on the speedo output for now and just put the tone ring on just in case. For some reason when I first looked at your...

What have you done to your square lately??

This brings back some distinct 90's and early 2000's vibes for me

Daughters ‘87 needs to ride smooth.

I have 35" E rated Falken Wildpeaks on my K25. They sit at ~28PSI most of the time. When I go put 3,000lbs of gravel or dirt in it I'll bump the pressure up to about 50PSI in the rear and 35 in the front and it rides just about the same as the lower pressure does unloaded. I have 63" K2500...

    Np205

Well, thanks for bringing this up... I was looking at their setup on the interwebs and saw they had a contact phone number with an area code near me. So then I googled their address and the guys shop is literally a 5 minute drive from me. I have driven past the house a few times since it is ~100...

Why the long adapter with the VSS in it? That's completely useless and will read exactly the same as the OSS in this case. You need either a switch to activate when in 4lo or the VSS on the output of the 205 in order for it to be doing you any good.

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

The aftermarket solutions are going to be tough because the stock Gen IV ECU doesn't output the right stuff for most of those controllers to work right. Someone probably makes an easy solution, but I don't know who that would be.

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

If you can pull the 6.2 apart when you get it, you could convert the engine to Gen III specs with a 24x reluctor and 1x cam gear. Then you could run a factory 04-07 P59 ECU(blue/green) and have someone make you a swap harness for fairly cheap. The other factory option would be finding a stock...

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

If you have the coin for a connect and cruise kit... it will come with literally everything you need. There are multiple kits available... but none support a 4L80. Your options will be 4l60/4l65/4l70/4l75 or 6l80/6l90/8l90/10l90. There are factory ECU's that do support running a Gen IV LS with...

What have you done to your square lately??

The piece you have to connect it to is the choke pull-off. It gives a restriction to the secondaries and choke opening while there is a high vacuum in the manifold(idle). When you floor it and the vacuum falls off, it lets the gold arm extend and allows the secondaries to open slowly instead of...

Swapping out OEM distributor with HEI distributor

You are making some broad generalities there that are not necessarily true. You would not necessarily get better mileage running 50 instead of 43. You add timing to compensate for the leaner mixture that you have tuned into the cruise cycle. A leaner mixture burns slower and therefore needs...

    4L80E Information Thread

I've never heard of anyone snapping input shafts from having engine braking. Generally you only start snapping stock input shafts when you are launching hard off a trans brake at 800+hp

Swapping out OEM distributor with HEI distributor

My whole thing with this is that he DOES NOT HAVE A 305 anymore. I'm betting that when someone swapped the engine out, they likely didn't transfer over the knock sensor either. A properly built 350 with no mechanical issues should have no issues with detonation; even hot, heavily loaded, or on...

Swapping out OEM distributor with HEI distributor

You are equating HEI=ESC... that is not the case. HEI came in all squarebodies from 1975 on. ESC was ONLY on LE9 engines(305). The timing control that came into the TBI, TPI, and later EFI systems is very different than the dumb knock retard only ESC that was in the LE9 used in the trucks. It is...

Swapping out OEM distributor with HEI distributor

What part do you disagree with? GM never equipped a 350 with ESC until it went to TBI as far as I know. The curve on that distributor would not be correct for that engine(assuming that he ACTUALLY does have a 350). How do you know you actually have a 350? Did you run the block casting number...

Swapping out OEM distributor with HEI distributor

Do you have a 350 now? Is it a stock 350 or somewhat warmed up? ESC was only on the 305 and it was necessary to get decent power and fuel mileage from them. If you now have even a stock 350 in it... you won't want the old 305 distributor. The spark curve and ESC will not work well on a 350.

Swapping out OEM distributor with HEI distributor

Only if he still had a stock 305. AFAIK the 350 never has ESC, it was only a stopgap for the piss poor head design of the 305 that made them an absolute dog with the small amount of timing you would need to set for it to not knock. If the engine has been replaced for a reasonably worked over...

Just picked up an LT4 swapped '86 C10

Since you already have the EFI and whatever computer running the LT4, you might as well just drop in a 95-newer 4L60e instead of a junk 700R4. They are basically the same trans, but with a bunch of reliability improvements in the 4L60 and no TV cable since it is all electronically controlled by...

    Duct Tape Drags

I'd like to make it some day. Last time I was at Tucson dragstrip was when Larson was there running the jet dragster and the design/build team was invited down to help out the crew.

    Aftermarket cruise control install ..

They are stock on an OBS chevy. GMT-400 = OBS. Lots of GMT-800 vehicles used the same module until they went to fully DBW setups. The DBW setups don't need them. Here's one talking about any 88-98 box will work by just swapping out the cable to match the original one for your truck...

    Aftermarket cruise control install ..

Not trying to poo-poo on your install... just wanted to put it out there for anyone looking at this that it is just a direct rip-off of the GM cruise control that you can find for dirt cheap in almost any junkyard(or even on ebay or similar). The stock GM systems are VERY well known for...

    Aftermarket cruise control install ..

I don't know that I would go that far.... Dakota digital is known for making digital clusters, but I wouldn't say known for high quality or top of the line. They basically just remade the factory GMT-400 cruise control box. All you need is a 4 wire control stalk and the GMT-400 box and it is...

    Aftermarket cruise control install ..

I was looking through that manual and it just made me think it seems like an awful lot of trouble for something that amounts to factory GMT400 cruise control module that can be gotten out of any junkyard for $20 or less. Is that just the Rostra retrofit cruise control stalk? If it is, you will...

Spark plug gap closed fresh rebuild

You are thinking of intake valve contact. The spark plug does not move and has nothing to do with timing. If the piston was going to make contact with the spark plug, it would do so at EVERY rotation of the crank, even with no cam installed at all. I have never seen a stock truck SBC with a...

Just picked up an LT4 swapped '86 C10

Welcome from Oregon! The turn signal issue is most likely going to be broken or bad grounds at either the harness ends or the light sockets themselves. I've had this issue on two different squares and in one case it was a bad ground connection at the rear right turn signal plug socket and the...

Spark plug gap closed fresh rebuild

That gap doesn't close without a significant physical force. It isn't timing and it isn't detonation. Either you pushed really hard on that plug while putting it in and closed that up or something bounced around in that cylinder and did that.
