If the block was machined, could that obliterate the numbers behind the alternator?

    Truck Overheating

Thermostats eh? Fun fact of the day: Engine thermostats don't work the way that many think. I used to think that the spring that holds it closed relaxed when it got hot, which allowed the thermostat to open. Nope. Turns out that the spring ALWAYS tries to close the thermostat and the spring...

Needs MORE POWER!!! (Tim Taylor Style!!!)

The valve covers are easy enough to remove. They are chrome with those hand twist of things. No tools required. If I got the block number and a head number, would you be willing to decipher the hieroglyphs for me? It would be kinda nice to know what it all is.

How do I determine if I have this stuff already? Bore scope in the spark plug hole? Head numbers? Cam?

Lawn/ Garden tractors/ Riding Mowers, Cool Mods and tinkering

Mine does this. Put a band new carb on ($15 on Amazon) and it has the same result. From what I found so far: Its an issue with the governor spring. I think the spring needs to be adjusted. On mine, if I go full throttle and then back it off just slightly, it runs normal. Does your run...

Needs MORE POWER!!! (Tim Taylor Style!!!)

Based on the truck, and the opinions of the old school mechanics that have looked at it, I'm pretty sure it has at least a cam. Plus it pulls pretty hard, even with the 37's.

I agree with the replace/displace thing for sure. I have considered a 454. Also like the turbo idea a lot.

Thanks for the info. The gearing has always been a little off with this rig. Learning curve to drive it smoothly. I am hesitant to less with the value train. As for the lifter issue: Everything is fin if you drive it normally or even with frequent WOT acceleration up to 4 to 4.5K. If...

Needs MORE POWER!!! (Tim Taylor Style!!!)

Thanks for the info, I might just have to try that. I'm not sure about the engine build. I bought it the way is is, and had changed hands half a dozen times in the year prior. But I think its has an aftermarket cam. I do have an intermittent lifter issue, so if I were to start taking any of...

    Idle problem

I would say vacuum leak. You can build a simple vacuum leak tester at home for free (if you have the materials): You take an milk jug, and drill a small hole in the cap. Then you insert a piece of vacuum hose into the hole, so that it goes into the jug about 1 inch. Then you put a lit...

Needs MORE POWER!!! (Tim Taylor Style!!!)

Do you think that going down to 35's would make much of a difference on acceleration? I like the 37's, but going down to 35's would be acceptable if there was a significant performance improvement. I have a spare set of 35's, but no spare rims - so it would be costly to swap the tires, and then...

Seat swap to rears from a 2014-2018 Silverado...

I have spend a fair amount of time in the back seat of my rig too, but to be honest - the comfort of the bench seat has always been the last thing on my mind. Never heard any complaints about it from the ladies either.

LT1000 Craftsman. 16.5 Kohler. New carb. All that stuff doesn't matter much though I suppose. Low throttle (0-25%) and max throttle (90-100%): surging RPM. Vrumm vrumm vrumm all by itself. If I stay between maybe 25 and 90 its OK. Outside that, no good. Governor spring adjustment?

K5 Blazer repaint cap body color or white? How to remove fading paint on fiberglass.

One option is Krylon. Its a 3-in-one product. Bonds to anything including plastic. We have used it on cars/trucks/quads/dirt bikes etc. Easy to use, minimal prep, not prone to runs, can be used upside down, and its tough as nails once dried. They have lots of different colors and it can be...

    350tbi stalls for fuel cutoff

If you want to try some simple stuff - Try turning the ignition on (not cranking over, just on - so that all the gauges and dash lights turn on). Turn it on for 3 seconds, then off for 5 seconds, then on for 3 seconds, then off for 5 second and so on. Do this about 5 to 10 times, and then see if...

If this doesn't take it off (without damaging the original) nothing will. It comes is spray cans, jugs, spray bottles, etc. Cheap at Walmart.

87’ 350 tbi hot start issue

Cool. I'm curious to hear -watt- the -current- problem is. Don't forget to -relay- the results to us. Sometimes I have a -short- -fuse- when dealing with electrical problems, but its very -empowering- when I fix my own vehicle.

Could be BS, but it sure sounds reasonable to me. I would give that a try for sure. Could he test this by bypassing / overriding the oil pressure switch with a jumper?
