I'm still fairly new here, but it seems like a cool site with good people. I think I will do the same.

Can't get rid of play in the steering

If you go to Les Schwab and ask them to tell you what is wrong with the steering - they will diagnose it for free in the hopes that you will pay them to fix it. Just ask for a repair quote, and it will list all the issues that they can find. The specialize in these types of diagnostics.

Can't get rid of play in the steering

Front wheel bearing play? Might check that. What is the exact symptom you want to remedy? Truck wanders, too much steering wheel play before the steering system responds? Stiff steering?

Can't get rid of play in the steering

I'm assuming that you adjusted the steering box properly. One time I had a heck of a time tracking down steering play on a rig. Everything was adjusted and double checked but it still wasn't right. Turned out that the leaf spring U-bolts were not tight enough, and the axle would wander around...

    Seat frame Question.....

If it cost them $2 to add those parts, and they made 5 million of those vehicles, then they spent $10,000,000 for that that part to be there. They have full time employees that get paid to figure out what parts can be made cheaper or deleted all together. They usually don't put parts on a car...

    Brake Fluid Flush GMT800

I would try this: Have someone start the engine and stomp hard on the brakes repeatedly while you check each rubber brake hose for bulging and replace any that are. Should be 3 hoses to check. Then I would bleed the brakes starting with the shortest brake line and ending with the longest brake...

    Gas spilling when filling up

You might be able to CAREFULLY slightly pressurize the fuel tank. The exhaust from a shop vac, air compressor, or something like that. You would want to do it outsize and be cautious of static sparks near the top of the filler tube. Then with air entering the tank, you could look around under...

    Window crank handle replacement

My rig had problems with both windows. One side was super hard to roll up and down, and the other side would get jammed and was just all around crappy. Didn't have to replace any parts. Just had to take them apart, lube everything, and make a bunch of adjustments. It took a long time to get them...

    Busted rear shock mount

You are 100% correct about the cigarette thing. Gas just doesn't burn in a liquid state. As for the water thing, you are correct as well. But its needs REALLY good cleaning. Gotta be careful. I was trying to repair a plastic ATV fuel tank once. I needed to heat up the threaded area where the...

    Busted rear shock mount

Liquid gasoline does not burn. It's not flammable. It has to be vaporized and mixed with oxygen - then the vapors are highly flammable. So you you have no fumes, you have no fire. Hence the full fuel tank.

Replacing the TBI engine, suggested upgrades or changes?

Assuming the motor has some miles on it, I would focus on getting it tuned up as much as possible and leak-free before installing. Maybe a new fuel injector, premium plugs and wires, cap, rotor, etc. So before trying to go above what the original factory performance is, get it back to original...

    Busted rear shock mount

You could drill holes on either side of the break and bolt a plate (with a hole in the center) to you existing shock mount. Or just weld that missing tab back in place. Why would you need to pull the body to weld that? If you can take that picture, you should be able to get a stick welder in...

    1988 V10 fuel lines

Bra! RATS be eat'n yo ****. When you get them fuel lines fixed, put a bunch of DECON packs up there on the gas tank. DEFCON 1 works too. Either way - kill the rats!

edelbrock fuel line leak. Anyone else?

With a banjo, try to find softer washers. Brass, aluminum or what ever is the easiest to deform under pressure. Then all you can do is tighten more, and check for leaks. Tighten more, and check for leaks, and repeat. Even when they seem like they are going to break or strip, all you can do is...

    12 bolt Rear axle ratio?

Mark the U-joint (or what the U-joint bolts to), and mark axle, near where the seal is. Then mark a spot on the wheel, and a spot on the leaf spring. So that you can tell how many times each one spins. If its an open diff, you spin the wheel two times. If its a posi, you spin the wheel once. On...
