What is this 2 prong Plug above the oil filter?

1976 was the first year for the hot air choke, with the introduction of the “mod quad,” however, which I think I solved it (this had puzzled me for a long time) only trucks below 6000gvwr received the mod quad and hot air choke. So F44 (big 10/heavy half) 6050+ gvwr would receive a non mod quad...

    Nice squarebody on BaT

That is a neat truck, but definitely some less than truthful claims there. 100% has been repainted at some point. Some nice brush touch up work there Cowl screen painted The corporate blue engine that’s not corporate blue. Rebuild courtesy of Krylon My favorite, MIG whiskers Now I...

    1991 Chevy V3500 Cummins

Ok, that’s much better. I’d say then @77Dmax has got the right idea, those 37s can’t be light, I’d imagine the tires themselves would be around 80lbs apiece. Add the wheels themselves, rotors and drums that is a fair chunk of weight rolling. May not be where all of your potential mileage is...

    1991 Chevy V3500 Cummins

20psi just cruising along unloaded? HX35? Your egts are inline, seems like a lot of boost at cruise though. My 02 cruises on flat ground about 5-7psi, pulling a hill 10-12psi. Stock injectors, and HY35 turbo, edge JWA on level 3 (+85hp according to edge, should be more like +65hp as its can...

    1991 Chevy V3500 Cummins

What is your boost/egts at highway speeds? My 02 Cummins (24v, VP44, auto, 4x4) was averaging 18mpg highway with 4.10 gears and 33” tires, now it’s 3.55 gears and 35” tires. Still will average 18 highway. That’s 60-75mph and in the warmer months for reference. That is one downside of the P7100...

New guy needs help with butterflies

Welcome from Missouri. @bluex and @TotalyHucked are two that come to mind that might have an answer regarding alignment with a lowered truck. These trucks (2wd that is) have a pretty fair range of adjustment available. Caster, camber, and toe should be able to be dialed in by an alignment shop...

I’m of the same mind, certainly can do it under the vehicle, with or without a lift, but having it out is just my personal preference. Now, doing this kind of work isn’t what keeps the lights on for me, so trying to make time and $$ doing the work, I can see why doing it under the vehicle is...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

In my opinion the best way is to have the axle on a stand or fixtured on a bench. That way one can rotate the pinion facing down and gravity assists in holding things, then you can drop the carrier in and not drop an AAM 11.5 carrier and ring gear and have it roll down your arms and legs lol...

What is this 2 prong Plug above the oil filter?

That would be for an electric choke setup from a later vehicle. With no oil pressure no voltage to the choke coil, with oil pressure it lets voltage to the choke coil and lets it heat up and open the choke. That way if you are KEOF (key on, engine off) it’s not wasting battery heating the choke.

    On my 4th starter

Be sure to use the proper starter bolts too, that have knurling after the threads. If you go to a later style “mini” starter, at least the one I put on my 76, needed bolts with a 10mm shank diameter and 3/8 threads, not 3/8 shank diameter with 3/8 threads like the original bolts.

Exhaust pipe kits from @mazon/ eBay

I’ve not used them myself, but I believe @Catbox had gotten some similar on close out from Eastwood(?), 3” diameter kits I think.
