1996 Grand Cherokee transmission rebuild & on to other stuff

Your trailer should be as strong as any Uhaul trailer and if you look up GM Heritage Center Vehicle information kits, all the specs are there. I looked quick and an 80s K20 burb is 5000-5400 curb weight. If you trust your trailer tires at max cap likely, then I’d be comfortable using it. But it...

Differential swap / bought it, work and install now

They’re not going anywhere. Sitting nicely under the truck. But to your point, if you got a 9 leaf pack in good shape, it’s stout. The K20 C6P is 9 I think. It too was a truck camper hauler back in the day with bags, so the springs are in great shape and the springs are pretty hefty. Funny...

Do I restore my AC or?

Surprised your state hasn’t outlawed selling refigerant retail, WA has. Had to buy parts store AC recharge kits in Idahoo a couple years ago.

What would you pay for this truck?

Ya I’m not certain if those are/were OE hubcaps. But I think 77 was around the time that GM changed the style to the “80s” style dog dish caps. Highly likely though as the truck was essentially original owner and never modified elsewhere thru the years. This tank is kind of a hack job too...

What would you pay for this truck?

I took the “faded” off this one with a quick polish but it qualifies as rough…. Man, old paint is soft. Entire truck buffed out in about the time it takes to do one bedside on good clear coat! For those that noticed, drivers side looks like a bad cab mount, sagging. It was perplexing at first...

Differential swap / bought it, work and install now

Super cool Rob! Probably feels like you added some horsepower. Late to the party, I have some stuff that coulda helped you get it in the bed, albeit a road trip to Auburn…. I see your old axle has those aftermarket coil spring overloads. I put a set on my 1990 half ton back in the day, they...

    Getting inside the cowl

New ones are about $25 USD. No idea what that means for cost/availability in Poland but if it’s crispy, you can’t fix that. Be real careful and hope for the best?

What would you pay for this truck?

I feel like I’ve seen shortbed cut downs that cut both ends near the end, some that only slice the front, like 6” back from the front of the bed. Haven’t researched enough but regardless it’s major surgery and the need to vertically seam the bed panels back together.

Need really good, really cheap shocks that will install themselves and last forever.....

Skyjackers are cheaper than Rancho and work just fine if $60/shock is too much.

Need really good, really cheap shocks that will install themselves and last forever.....

Don’t guess on lift height and shock fitment. Measure existing and double check part numbers you’re ordering for length and bushing size etc. otherwise you’ll be much further from them installing themselves than you think.

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

Oops my bad. Figured you knew, not being critical just clarifying for someone who may not know camber from caster or what they do to steering. Cheers!

What have you done to your square lately??

Nice work! I’m convinced both Eddy carbs on the squares could use some tuning. They both run fine but just “feel” and smell a bit rich. Definitely like items 98 and 99 on the ever growing to do list.

What have you done to your square lately??

Yes, if you’re goin to use a built up sealer and not a penetrating sealer, all sides need to be done, or the moisture will be absorbed in from the unfinished sides and lift the finish off. At least that was my experience with a wood deck recently.

    1987 Chevy V10 steering wander

Camber you mean? Generally not needed to ever adjust on a straight axle. Toe and caster, assuming components are all good/tight/not too tight, are the 2 primary causes/solutions to twitchy or wandering steering. Generally 5deg or greater positive caster is what’s required or recommended...

What would you pay for this truck?

Like this? Also a clue to where I live if you don’t look at my location on the left where yours says Miami…. I strongly considered painting the secondary color white, but kept original colors. Could vinyl wrap it white pretty easy though!

What would you pay for this truck?

Agree, and where I (and you) live, it makes more sense to buy a solid shortbed and sell a solid longbed. Because clean shortbeds are somewhat available and if one’s time is worth anything it’s a lot of time to cut down a longbed and make it look like it never happened. Again, in the OPs case...

    Fuel Tank Selector Valve Shield

Agree, it’s gonna be a used original part only. Been a few years since I looked at the one on the 86, but I recall thinking it would have been fine, heat wise, if it was left off. That’s with dual 3” on a 4x4. I chose to re-install it because 1. I could. 2. It’s not that hard to remove again...

What would you pay for this truck?

And if your personal preference is a shortbed, then maybe that makes sense. One thing some seem to forget is these trucks aren’t rare. Yes there are not many clean unrestored ones in the rusty parts of the continent, but they are figuratively still dime a dozen some places. Thus, unless one has...

LED exterior light conversion! not going well :(

Except, buying and installing a relay harness vs a $10-20 switch that will last 10-40 years and takes about 6.9 minutes to replace with no tools doesn’t seem like very good roi. Now a harness to take the load off old wiring and have brighter lights makes more sense. And the harness doesn’t...

    Tail Light Connector

Not really something you go searching for used, IMO, especially not as a local purchase. Can buy a whole harness for $100 and individual connectors for like $10 from multiple vendors. Just a generic 4 flat weather pack male and female is $12.49 delivered tomorrow by Amazon.

What would you pay for this truck?

But the short story is, the truck in question is a MAJOR project both time and money JUST to get a straight rust free body ready to paint. Then add all the drivetrain and mechanical work, known…and unknown that is needed. On top of that, interior, trim, etc. Makes that truck better to be...

What would you pay for this truck?

Long vs shortbed is really just personal preference. In OPs case, if considering a truck that needs major work or replacement to virtually every panel and half the cab, turning a long bed into a short bed is just another task on the list and $500. You have to be not worried aboot cutting...

    Modified engine crewcab gas mileage?

It’s actually gone up a fair bit in the last month in about every region of the us. I’d hazard to say every region but apparently you find the only place it’s going down. Regardless, the point above about fuel mileage is mostly a placebo if you’re chasing it and think you achieve it. And most...

Yeah because if that’s a $2k truck, what does 1-800-JUNK-CARs buy? Engine blocks, tires and windows?

What would you pay for this truck?

**** man….if you guys weren’t friends, I wouldn’t be posting them! Hahaha Just bought my BIL a 24 year old $2k Volvo XC70. Clean grandma rig with 130k. The only rust is the original chrome wheel lugs. Must be schitty chrome in Sweden, lol. He bought a $100 plane ticket, changed the oil, rotated...
