Help! My coolant temp heats up fast in idle or slow-moving traffic (around 210F+) then decreases when I start driving (around 170F-190)

Just about to say the same thing. Check to see if your fan is working correctly.

    Temp gauge not reading

Just some info if you are curious All you need is 150 ohm resistor & 220 ohm resistor wired in parallel ( I would use at least 1/2 watt resistors)- It will be roughly 90 ohms resistance- in the old service manuals, test on gauges use a J-24538-A tool- this is a homemade version of that tool.

f/w junction block to fuse block

@ kgerrish I found it somewhere on a forum a while back. Someone did a great job on it. (Wish I knew who- I would definitely give them credit) I just added where the power came from.. I think the same person also drew the convenience center- once again I just added the circuit numbers.

First Post Seat belt dash light issue

The parking light comes on when tan-33 wire (going to circuit board) is grounded. It can ground at one of two locations. It is grounded by the switch at the parking brake & brake proportioning valve (usually on frame under radiator) - Make sure the tan wire isn't grounding out at those...

f/w junction block to fuse block

Too complicated for me to figure it out over a forum. My suggestion is to download 86 wiring diagram LINK and go over it a circuit at a time. Or invest (if you have the money) in something like a Painless Wiring Harness and rewire everything. LINK- Painless Harness

f/w junction block to fuse block

Previous owner screwed up your wiring. It appears they are back feeding that portion of your fuse box by that red (fused) orange wire. Not good really. What happens to your tail lights when you unplug the wire (with parking lights on)? Also is your horn/dm fuse good? I'm not quite sure...

f/w junction block to fuse block

See attachments. Shows how the wires originally were. First number is size of wire (metric) Then color of wire, then circuit number.

f/w junction block to fuse block

Attached is power coming into fuse box- It tells were it is coming from. Dark grey in the fuse box is the power going to fuses. Here is a link to wiring diagrams- download and look at 86- shows how the wiring runs. I would suggest quickly reading the first few pages also-very useful info to...

    headlight/seat belt buzzer

I meant it would be extremely easy to modify 77-83 (4 pin) to use the 7 pin alarm module to add the headlight alarm portion. Adding the key alarm portion not as easy because of the key switch in steering column. The seatbelt portion of the alarm is wired the same from 77 on.

    headlight/seat belt buzzer

84 used up to 7 pins. (85 on location is the convenience center - before that is usually hanging close to the horn relay) if I’m remembering correctly. I would think it would be pretty easy to modify 77-83 to use it though (minus key).

    headlight/seat belt buzzer

85 on, it is located in the "convenience center". Roughly above the brake pedal- also where hazard flasher is. A lot of the GM buzzer/alarms are interchangeable- they may have different alarm/buzzer chime tones.

    headlight/seat belt buzzer

I found my last one at a junkyard. GM used the same alarm type for a lot of years If I remember correctly the only difference is the 6 pin doesn’t have headlight alarm. It will have key & seatbelt alarm. 7 pin headlight, key, seatbelt alarm here are some parts numbers 22533568 22535998...

86 Chevy k10 No start and no crank

86- automatic-the neutral safety is mechanical- did away with the switch mid 84. If it is manual- like mentioned above- could be a bad clutch start interlock. Definitely make sure the purple wire on starter is making good contact. Follow Ricko1966 instructions above.

    Starter and Alternator wires

Yes - originally is is spliced to a red wire (at the fusible link) that attaches to you starter with another red wire and black battery wire. Compare the diagram above when you get to look at your truck.

    Starter and Alternator wires

This is how it was explained to me- - sensing voltage at the alternator output - seriously hamstrings the system - it's like a self-fulfilling system - it's supposed to maintain 14.0 volts, it outputs 14.0 volts, therefore everything must be OK, right? But it completely ignores voltage drop in...

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

I could be totally wrong, However, I still lean towards a ground problem like @EvilGenius pointed out. He described it very well. Your turn signal indicators staying on when not in use is a very strong indicator. If the parking lights don't ground properly they back feed through the turn...

If that is on the left kick panel- that is the main ground location for things inside the cab- definitely will cause problems if things are not grounded well there.

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

Just curious- what happens if you pull the 5amp INST LPS fuse? Not at home- but if I’m remembering correctly- it goes to instrument panel lights & goes to radio (gry). Its feed by green from pull light switch. Just wondering if that’s the circuit that got messed up somehow
