    Frame welded, dangerous?

Obviously if someone did a bad job then there is a chance the repair could fail. But if whoever repaired it actually knew how to weld and did it right, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with welding a frame, especially with a patch plate and not just simply booger welding over a crack. If...

Help with sudden engine knocking and clanking

I mean yeah, while I hear you there, come on dude was working on an old truck. He wasn't putting on body armor or loading a rifle. If he was just sitting in the truck on the phone slouched down low, or pacing back and forth in the parking lot looking around and whatnot, yeah that's sketchy...

    Side molding removal

Most comes off pretty easy, the rest, just kind of pry it off. Just in case you weren't aware, under the tail lights isn't a sticker, that's actual metal trim

What size tires for 4 inch lift?

I've seen 33s on stock 1/2 tons. In tight situations they would rub for sure, but still fit otherwise. A 3/4 ton is already a little taller (by about an inch IIRC), so 33s would fit pretty well stock, maybe a little tight and probably rub in extreme situations but still fine in every day...

    New From NH Seacoast

Welcome from the lakes region! Nice truck, thing looks decent overall One question, is that a header on the driver's side, and a stock exhaust manifold on the passenger, or are those before and after photos?

    Rocker, kick panel, floor?

As long as it exits behind the passenger compartment, it's not hazardous in the least bit, unless you make a habit of driving real fast in reverse (which is illegal anyway). And the other stuff you mentioned, yeah I rolled my eyes so bad my head hurt... What a joke. Especially as mechanics...

    Rocker, kick panel, floor?

I wish my state would just do away with this BS "safety inspection" racket already like the state I grew up in. There have been so many studies that prove it does nothing to make the roads safer, just makes old timers feel safer because the idea of not hassling people over minuscule issues...

    Rocker, kick panel, floor?

Hah, I got a guy that kinda gives me a wink and a nod and slaps an inspection sticker on my stuff, we have an understanding that I won't bring him dangerous junk and he won't bother me. This year the rust accelerated so quickly I didn't feel right getting a sticker until I fix some of the...

    Rocker, kick panel, floor?

Oh man, is that all? Unless you're going for a showroom quality restore you'll be fine. Find out where the moisture is coming from and fix that before anything (most likely door or window seal, maybe even cowl drains), after that some rust converter and seam sealer will fix that up plenty...

Taking off passenger head about 37 bolts so far

well ALMOST isn't all of them. And even when all of the bolts are out, after years of heating ad cooling and old gaskets and pins and whatnot, things don't just pop off once all the bolts are out. Sometimes you literally gotta whack it with a hammer to pop it loose, just put a block of wood in...

Yeah, I mean snapping the studs counts as "off" still. Going back on is a different story though... heh

    Jegs or Summit

My grandfather (technically my grandmother's 2nd husband, not blood related but he was around since before I existed) worked at Napa basically his whole life, at least since the late 60s-early 70s. He used to get the catalogs and bring them home for me and my cousin, and seriously who knew all...

    Jegs or Summit

x2 on the paper catalog. I know a lot of people will call that "old fashioned", but whatever man I'm only 35 and I still can't stand that everything is just online these days. I miss getting the JCWhitney catalog and seeing what cool crap I could get for my truck as a teenager, the internet...

    Is this a good deal?

No carpet, were there moisture issues? Yeah it's "clean" but so was the truck I bought off a sheetrocker that had compound all over the inside of it. Just because everything's not destroyed doesn't mean it's spectacular. I see a towel jammed into the passenger seat, is it ripped? As...

    1983 454 vs 5.3 LS for towing

I don't have one with a fan, but my 'burb has a B&M trans cooler and temp gauge (where the clock would go) that mounts in front of the radiator. It's just a 1/2 ton with a 350 and a 700r4, but I have towed MANY heavy trailers through the mountains, never had any overheating problems with the...

    305 Swap To ???

Vortec engines are decent, but they're nothing so amazing that I'd go out of my way to swap in. Getting a beefed up crate 350 is the easiest most straightforward thing you can do. Pull that 305 out and use it as a boat anchor (or sell it to someone who needs to run one for their class of...

    Is this a good deal?

I have not been able to find anywhere that I can get new seat covers for my '87 burb. Also, since my truck is front-only AC, I can't find a rear headliner for it anywhere, seems they only make them for rear AC trucks

    Help me understand 5.0 disparities

Believe it or not (as much as Ford really would like to pretend it's not true) the 302 is actually only 4.9 liters in displacement lol But yeah, from the start the Chevy 305 was designed as an economical fuel saving engine. They essentially took a 350 and decreased the bore size if I remember...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Yep, that and the nearly instant full-engagement thing is the reason they're probably so prone to locking up. extremely negligible when maintained properly, probably won't notice a difference in MPGs (unless we're talking a coast to coast roadtrip you might save 2 bucks) but what you WILL...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

I'm not suggesting anyone convert them (unless we're talking race cars or something) but let's not start lying to ourselves and saying that drum brakes have better driveability and stopping power lol. If it ain't broke don't fix it I agree, but they most certainly aren't "better" at anything...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

oh yeah for sure, if you don't need it you don't need it. You'd get better mileage and less power loss without all those extra parts on there too. It's just funny, I've had front axles laying on the ground like that before and obviously I have seen 2wd trucks, but never seen the front...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

huh, so that's what the front suspension of a 2wd rig looks like? Kinda neat. Pretty simple like a car, really. Never seen one with my own eyes, learn something new everyday. Up here a 2wd truck is basically useless, so you really never come across them. We get snow in the winter, and a TON...
