Swap body instead of engine, tranny, front and rear ends etc...

Jump back off of the Cummins bandwagon. First time you pull the front tires onto deep mud, that heavy-ass rattlin' stinker will sink you to the diff. Seen it plenty of times. You have a transfer case with a decent ratio, you'll have all the torque you need without the swap. If I come off as...

Just a little tip for you

I worked in a calibration/micro-miniature repair shop. We did very little troubleshooting but a lot of repairs under a microscope. I'd get handed a board with a marked component on it along with the repair piece and my job was to put the new one in and make it look like everything was...

    Which 4L80e do I need?

Coolant line hookups are the main differences. I visited with a very knowledgeable 4L80E and he pretty much dismissed the "upgrade" that GM did with moving one of the lines back. He said they couldn't tell a bit of difference in several they've worked on. Front hookups are easier, some have...

Could two power steering pumps be mounted to driver side?

Try Performance Steering Components. They make a lot of different pumps and reservoirs, there might be something there that will save you some time and money...

Just a little tip for you

Hazard Fraught has neon colored ones, I will buy a package or two today for just this use. Genius! Way back in my Navy days, I could quote the resistor color codes but I've long since forgotten them. And colors fade. And a lot of my junk is too greasy to write on, even with a Sharpie.

AFR Tuning- Old skool vs. New school

Old was "school", new is skool. Us old farts are purists when it comes to the way we talked and wrote back in the day. And trust the AFR gauge as long as its from a reputable company.

NOT reverse cooling, just reverse rotation pump to work with the serpentine system.

    Flex plate questions.

You're also a pair of Vortec heads and an intake away from picking up a good bit of power over the smoggers in it now! Watch me spend your money....start with looking up the story about "The Impersonator", a sbc400 build with said vortec heads. Size of a smallblock with the torque of a big block.

    Flex plate questions.

Balancer is different, too. That's an easier place to look. Good on you both ways - that's a great engine and you got 'er fixed!!! Buy yourself a beer and then another one or two...

    Matching numbers block

Save at least the block, preferrably the long block and intake. If you rebuild it, make sure your machinist knows how to deck a block and leave the VIN stamp. Probably isn't worth much today, but someday it could be worth a lot if you take really good care of your truck.

    Flex plate questions.

That ring gear is a long ways from being done, you just need to get the starter engaging fully. If you do replace it, pick up a good used one from a pick-a-part, there are millions of 'em that have never given anyone any problem. Good thing is they're easy to remove after somebody has gone to...

455 Olds in place of 454 in 76 GMC (frame to engine mounts?)

Dang, I wish you were in Texas, I have a BOP TH-400 that I need to get rid of and you wouldn't need the adapters!

    Rock Auto buyer beware

If Walbro is available, that's what I get. If not, Delphi. I rarely buy consumables online - water pumps, fuel pumps, alternators, etc. due to the PITA if you have a problem. I would like to adapt the setup that's in my Vortec trucks where the pump sits in a "basket" and has a bypass on the...

In the next 2 months Im looking to buy a(nother) square..

I'm curious about the prices you find in your area for these trucks. We have plenty of rust free trucks here and I know what I can get 'em for, curious about the value of something like this in the rust belt. Easy identifier for a good 700R4 is the case parting line that runs through one of the...

    Frame question

Bolt a 2x4 onto it with big washers and twist the bitch right back into shape. Don't heat it, it may leave a signature that says it's had major work, it'll move cold just fine.

Anyone ever put a 348-409 "W" motor in a squarebody?

They're Chevy's most distinctive looking engine. If I ever build something with exposed engine, that's what it'll be. If you're going to hide it under a hood, there's no reason to mess with 'em. They don't make great power and rods are prone to coming from together. But they look cool!

    Posi screws in your Square

One is true phillips, the other was first called Reed and Prince (I think it's your posi drive). The depth of the pointed tip was considered wasted since it provided no meaningful surface area on which to imart force.

Harbor Freight recalls 454,000 jack stands

Best values I have found at Hazard Fraught are the impact sockets and the 18" all chrome breaker bar. I haven't busted a bar or socket yet or even rounded a socket out. I bought a couple of their newer all chrome ratchets and so far, so good. Their little aluminum "racing" jacks at about $60...

Harbor Freight recalls 454,000 jack stands

You just have to use judgement when buying anything from Hazard Fraught. Battery powered? Pass Needs to be sharp? Pass Needs to be durable? Pass I have impact socket sets, 18" breaker bars, cheap grinders and a few other things that last. Their cheap plastic safety glasses have probably...
