    Holley or edelbrock?

I do custom performance builds and race builds and Quadrajet can do well to about 600hp. I modify the internal circuits for and replace the secondary rods to match the needs of the engine and driving style.

    Holley or edelbrock?

My stock engine quadrajet build cost is $225. If I build one I have, I charge a $75 core charge that is refunded when I receive yours back. That way you don't have any down time with your truck. Details are on my website, but information below My stock build includes: complete disassemble and...

    Holley or edelbrock?

Do you know the code number on your quadrajet? Something like a 17059205 maybe. Should have a hot air choke system, which can be converted to electric. I'm a quadrajet guy, so naturally, I'm going to say quadrajet. And why not. You can get yours professionally built for less than you can buy...

    Stumped

The carb you have in this picture is 17058212 which indicates a 1978 Chevrolet 454 truck quadrajet. This particular one was built on 258th day of 1977. If the other quadrajet you have is a different code stamp, let me know what that is. Quadrajets are great carbs, but they were built unique...

    Stumped

That is correct carb number for the 78 454 so that is good. In the second picture, the choke is engaged partially. Make sure it is not engaged when the engine is warm.

So, it does this bucking with different carbs on it? If so, set up a fuel pressure gauge to measure your pressure at the carb while driving and having this issue. It could be a fuel delivery issue. Float can be too low, or fuel not getting to the carb to fill it. Check all of your rubber...

    choking out and sputtering

Since it will start and run some, I would suggest looking for a restriction in fuel or air delivery. Check fuel filter and air filter. Check all rubber fuel lines including any return lines for cracks and deteriation. Today's fuel will rot the old lines and let air in the system.

No power up hill or after 45 MPH

Post a picture of your quadrajet. Do you know the code number? Make sure your choke is opening all the way. Your secondaries may be blocked from opening by the restricter on the passenger side that engages when choke is activated. Or is could be gunned up and need cleaned off. Your upper air...

No power up hill or after 45 MPH

You have good info from others here already. After you check those things and if your problem still exist, you may have fuel flow issues. Which could be fuel pump or internal carb issues.

    New intake and carb question

Power to the wiper motor is good "key on" power source. It is usually easy to find and access. Any key on source will work of course, and there are many options. I don't suggest tying in to ignition system. That is best left alone.

    New intake and carb question

I charge $225 for a stock build, and $275 for performance build of your carb. My website shows what all I do on each build. They all include new jets, primary rods, float, high flow needle seat and much much more. As far as what performance? I set up each carb for its specific use. So you...

    Carb help

Those big reman shop quadrajets from summit and other parts stores are junk. I have had several in my shop that are beyond repair. They typically use MIS matched parts to assemble a genetic carb. I have seen epoxied seat for needle/seat, when threads were stripped. They plug bypass air and...

    New intake and carb question

Electric choke should be connected to a "key on" power source. If your truck wasn't equipped originally with electric choke, I recommend connecting to the windshield wiper motor. If you don't want that old quadrajet anymore, I'll take it. If you want a much better carb than the Summit carb...

    Q jet choke has defected

You could make it a manual choke by connecting a rod to it and having a pull in your cab. There is no good electric choke option for your divorced choke carb. Also noticed you are missing your secondary pull off rod that should be attached to your vacuum brake on passenger side front. That...

    Beginners Advice to the Quadrajet

I agree. Best to let it eject itself. I always use a new retainer for the power piston. I also use new spring, primary rods and jets.

    Lean MISFIRE! need help.???????

What carb do you have? If it is a quadrajet you need to check the secondary air valves to see if they are opening too fast. Could be the primary air break is not working or tension spring is loose or broken.

q jet high high idle and very rich

Thanks for checking out my website. Ni just redid the site and launched it this week. My base build for a quadrajet is $225 plus return shipping. I build each specific for the engine specs and driving desire. New jets, primary rods, float, bushings in base plate, high flow needle seat...

q jet high high idle and very rich

It sounds like your secondary blades were sticking open. Clean that area good like ogre suggested. You might also loosen the 4 hold down bolts and make sure the base gasket is centered to prevent any contact with the blades. As far as being rich, do you know what jets and primary rods are...

    Quadrajet question

It depends on what was used. Just like mentioned, use it for a while and see if there are issues. Most "epoxy" I see on the well plugs will easily peel off. Sometimes, I need to use a pick. I use Marine-Tex and it will stick around much longer than others I have seen.

    Quadrajet question

Cliff does have the best parts available. And yes, you can pull the electric choke element off and transfer it to your new carb. Like mentioned, make sure you plug off the intake port or it will be a large vacuum leak. Where is your old quadrajet leaking?

    Carb ID

Yea, keep your quadrajet. Better for performance and fuel economy as long as it is set up right for you. Your holley, in the condition it is in, might sell for about $50.

    Carb ID

The code number (4 digits) will be on the front of the air horn/choke. In your 5th picture down from top, I can see the code but can't read what it is. It is a vacuum secondary carb.
