NP203, NP205, NP208 Differentiating Power to front and rear axles.

The 205 is all gears. you get the same power front and rear when in 4wd. The 203 is the one that is split 30 front 70 rear when not in 4 hi loc or 4 low loc. I have heard this for years and I think its true. My last truck had a 203 in it and when I took it to a friends shop we put it on the...

    4 wheel drive problems

Check the manual hubs, if the hubs are full of dirt they won't lock in correctly. When you take them apart look for metal flakes. If you find metal flakes replace the hubs. If the snap ring is gone off the end of the axle don't be alarmed it won't hurt anything.

    Rear Shackle flip

I've had over 1000 pounds of scrap metal in the back of my 4x4. The shackle flip was not an issue.

    wheel hop

It might help lessen the wheel hop if you switched to 4 inch lift springs and no blocks. The blocks work as a lever allowing to much spring wrap.

Need advice on steering components 86 K20

I can't tell in his photos if it's a Dana 44 or a ten bolt but the knuckles are the same. The ten bolts used in these trucks are nothing but Dana 44 clones. GM used them because they were cheaper. The knuckles, spindles, axles and maybe even more parts are interchangeable. Thats a good price he...

Need advice on steering components 86 K20

Here are some photos of the knuckle you need. Off Road Unlimited sells everything you need, the entire kit. Their number is (1-888-365-0244). You could go though 4 Wheel Parts and get the same kit from them. It's around $600.00, comes with the steering knuckle, drag link, left drag link end...

Need advice on steering components 86 K20

Ryan you need a steering stabilizer. Check the castor and the toe-in. Check the tie rod ends. And then I would recommend dual steering stabilizers. Both of the trucks I've owned with 44's on them had to have dual stabilizers or hydraulic assist on the steering.

Need advice on steering components 86 K20

Crossover steering is the way to go. You could buy a raised steering arm and a 3 inch block that bolts to the top of the knuckle. I don't recomend it they use very long studs and tend to flex and move when running 44 inch tires. I would buy a raised passenger side steering arm / knuckle (not...

Do your super swampers ride like crap

I know people using them and I've heard mostly good reviews. The only negative thing I've heard is that until you reach about 35 mph they don't help. They need time to distribute themselves were they need to be. I may still try them.

Do your super swampers ride like crap

Thanks... Yes I have considered AG's but some of those tires are very heavy. If I ever put my 2 1/2 ton axles under the truck I will definitely run tractor tires in the mud.

Do your super swampers ride like crap

I just bought a set of 44" PitBull Rockers. If I don't have at least 16 psi in each tire they bounce like basket balls. None of them are balanced and I expected to have have a little out of round trouble. I now run 18 to 20 psi in each tire. After they warm up they ride a lot smoother and the...

2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive

Each method has it's pros and cons. One method your swapping frames and or bodies and the other your swapping cross members and spring hangers. Your choice just depends on the equipment you have on hand. If your planning to lift the truck for more tire clearance use a 3" body lift and the short...

    Light Metal Welding Discussion

Just a reminder, when using (gasless) flux-cored wire the polarity of the welder needs to be - to the wire (the torch) and + to the clamp. When using gas shielded wire (solid wire) the torch is + and the clamp is -. When in doubt check with wire manufacture for the proper polarity for the wire...

If the wire burns back to the tip turn the wire feed up or turn the voltage down. Also they make a product to prevent debris from sticking to the nozzle, "nozzle dip" comes in a white plastic container.

They can weld beads like a stick welder. Every thing on my truck I welded with a Hobart Mig welder. You can also spot weld and stitch weld with them.

    Light Metal Welding Discussion

The nozzel opening is only about 1/2 of an inch or less away from the matereial when your welding. The wire only sticks out about 3/8 to 1/2 inch when your welding. The gas shields the weld so you don't have to use flux (flux like on the outside of a welding rod or inside of fluxcore wire) there...
