    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

What size/type of cooler did you use? Any pics of the install? I'm wondering if I need to fab up a bracket or something to mount in in front of the stock radiator on the passenger side.

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

Well I just ordered up the following transmission: Now I need to address the cooling system. I know I need to flush the cooling system completely. I'm thinking an additional trans cooler is a good idea? Anybody installed one of those?

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

You want me to be your first customer? Hah. As for $2,500 700R4s that is what Pro-Built seems to charge. They seem to have the spotless rep, but I can't shell out that kind of cash on my POS truck. As for G-Men, I read that some of these guys are from 06-07 when Mad-Dog slashed his workforce...

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

Having googled MadDog it seems like there is a lot of drama regarding his transmissions... lots of nasty threads out there. Most of them are tales of transmissions without the parts ordered inside of them. Owner himself claims that in 06-07 they had too many employees and poor quality and have...

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

I took a peak at their website.... what stage did you have? And what motor/tires and use did you put it through? (I want to compare components) HotRodPC - I'm glad you joined on this thread, based on my other readings around here you are the transmission authority here. What do you think of...

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

The idea of wiring in an ECU type controller for a trans is a bit scary. Would I need new driveshafts? Cross members? Etc? I'm also guessing a 4L80E is more expensive as a result of being tougher. I'd like to have this thing back on the road sooner rather than later. This truck has 35" tires on...

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

The transmission shop here in town told me $2000 for a rebuild with install. I was so shocked that I didn't bother to ask how much it would be for just a rebuild. But I doubt 1300 would be the labor. I'm thinking a performance build so I can mate a 383 stroker or something strong down the...

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

For performance built they seemed on par if not inexpensive. I did some searching on eBay and people are asking 1500-2000 for these 700R4s. If these are too expensive... got any links for cheaper ones?

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

Wildcatjason - I'm afraid that I don't have the time, will, nor tools to rebuild it myself. I've seen the videos and I want a professionally built one. I especially don't want my truck to be immobilized without a tranny while I screw around with it out of the truck.

    Dead 700R4 - Now what?

I'm pretty sure that I have a nearly useless 700R4. It puked trans fluid out of the dip stick and all over transfer case. Consequently a few things caught fire in the engine bay. I towed it home and found the fluid burned and a fine mud stuck around the magnet in the pan. Overdrive is completely...

Newbie Carb and Engine ID Questions

Swims350 - I did get the hang of starting without the choke in the cold. But I now have the choke hooked up and it seems easier to start. It won't require as much coaching for someone else to start it now. So it seems worthwhile. Any feedback on my vacuum diagnosis?

Newbie Carb and Engine ID Questions

bucket - The tank vent hose is bolted to the bracket for the canister and it has a vent cap. So I pulled the can and bolted the vent back to the front. I ran a vacuum test on the carb (a first for me as well) and I shot a youtube video of it. Based on some guides I've read, I'm guessing I have...

Newbie Carb and Engine ID Questions

83swb - Thanks for the Edelbrock PDF manual. Looks like the bracket just below the big hose in the photo above is where i need to mount a clamp to hold the housing of the choke cable. Then I need to attach the inner cable to the arm on the carb directly to the right of that. I'm going to need...

Newbie Carb and Engine ID Questions

89Suburban - Yeah, shes not pretty under that hood. But you'd be surprised how well it runs actually. I'll snap a shot of the passenger side later on tonight and throw it up. 83swb - Thanks for the info. I definitely have a choke cable in the cab, but I'm fairly certain it isn't hooked up to...

Newbie Carb and Engine ID Questions

This 1984 Chevy k10 is my first Chevy, first carburated engine, and its actually older than me. So I've got some real basic questions for the experts. The engine is supposed to a "rebuilt" 350 and I see a Edelbrock carb and intake manifold. What carb do you think this is specifically...

    New guy from IL

I wanted to drop a thread here as I just got a 1984 Chevy Scottsdale Pickup. She has a lot of problems, but I wanted a project. It definitely had more problems than I was told about from the previous owner, but not much I can do about it now. It has a "rebuilt 350" and a 700R4 that is...
