    Like I've been saying. If base is set to whatever, lets say 12*, with the vac un plugged at idle, and i zerod the light, plugged in the vac, and adjusted the light to bring the TDC mark on the balancer to 0 on the tab, the result is 20*.

    Yes. We agree on this. Mechanical advance does not kick in 'till ~900. So like I asked, what would be wrong with measuring va if below this point. Mechanical would not be contributing, therefor not skew the va #.

    What's wrong with measuring va by setting the light and plugging and/or unplugging the vacuum and measuring the delta from base, when below the RPM mechanical starts contributing, and with enough vacuum to pull full advance?

    I have one. It lines up with the 0* on the tab. I don't trust the tab to tell me anything but 0 now that I have an adjustable light.

    Yeah. I remembered you said 15* va most recently. People have been telling me total should be ~34*. Those same people usually say that any timing number in the 50's is stupid advanced. I think those people are not talking total. Just saying total. When I say total, I mean total.

    I have a timing mark. It used to spend all it's time away from the tab when measuring anything but base. I bought a adjustable timing light, as stated previously, so I can now measure all phases of timing.

    I do plan to get the AFR meter. I don't think you can blame me for trying to apply some things I'm learning in the mean time. Timing number are confusing people. I know you know. You have been very careful to explain crankshaft and camshaft counts.

    Yeah. You and Rich are having an argument on this, and i'm trying both for you guys. How do you think I feel? Rich doesn't go off the chart, and others said listen to him. No offence intended. Are you missing that? I went right on the chart too. and I tried stock.

    The rich smell is all around the truck when tuning and jumping out after a drive. It wasn't bad until I put the 7037. I chose .07" to stay close to riches .068" on cruse because I am having a power related rattle. Sounds like when my Harley gets hot and there isn't enough octane in the gas.

    Wouldn't the total be 52*? If base is 12*, VA is 20* and mechanical is 20*. All measured in crank degrees.

    I may not be describing the sound accurately, but I thought it was pre-ignition or detonation. What i'm calling "knocking", sounds like a rattle that rises with RPM.

    The 6857 needle looks pretty far left on the chart to me, and Rich discussed this earlier in this thread. Stock is 7547 I think. Rich said this was his best guess without a AFR meter. I'll get an adjustable light. Altitude is 164 ft.
