    Fuel Pump?

I'm not sure if this thread is still working but I thought I would give it a try. Summit lists two pumps for my 3 line stock '84 305ci with Q-jet. The first one is a Carter Muscle Car Pump M6626 for $29.99 and the second one is a Delphi pump MF002-11B1 for $16.99. A close look at the Delphi...

    Gas smell

Thanks, everyone. I haven't yet searched for a Carter pump but I did see that Rock Auto lists only two higher end pumps, one is a GMB for $26.79 and the other is a USMW for $22.79. Has anyone tried either of these brands and what was GM's part number for the OEM pump?

    I need a good 84/87 steering column.

You should call Outback Truck Parts on Spring Stuebner in Spring Texas, 281-350-9072. Ask to speak with Paul. They specialize in 1960-87 new and used parts. This place is amazing and he has really been organizing over the years. They have four metal buildings/sheds full with rows of hoods...

    Gas smell

Hi everybody. I jumped in the stock '84 C10 yesterday to head to the store and started smelling gas about a half block away. I pulled over and raised the hood and saw gasoline pooled on top of the fuel pump. I couldn't see where it was coming from so I headed back to the house and turned the...

    Suspension grease fittings

I'm getting up there in years and my recall abilities from the late fifties, when I was working in a filling station, is not so good. Can any of you folks give me any ideas of how to fix a grease fitting that will not accept grease? I have three of them. And BTW, how many grease fittings are...

    Mileage question/opinion

Of course the picture I was referring to was the one of the brake pedal. It took me 2-1/2 years and lot of $ to get it looking the way is does parked next to the company sign. The picture in my personal description, was taken about 1986 and is the same truck. Notice the tool box and two way...

    Mileage question/opinion

Hey guys. I recently started wondering if the mileage (52,400 when I took possession on 6/18) was correct or should it have a 1 in front of it. As a fleet truck for the company I was employed with for 27 years, it has had multiple drivers for 21 years before it was parked for lack of interest...

    OEM Part Number

Do you know who the manufacturer is? I know Standard Motor Products (SMP) currently makes them for a number of distributors. Since the demand probably isn’t too high, I wonder if they make them for GM? I’m on my third new compressor and like the previous two Murray’s, this ACDelco is leaking at...

    OEM Part Number

I have a 1984 C10 5.0L LE9 Silverado with what I believe is an R4 A/C compressor. Can anyone tell me what was the original part number for the compressor? Thanks.

    Changing brake fluid

I also have one of the Mitey Vacs. Should I suck the reservoir dry, refill it and then start with the right rear wheel, then the left rear , with left front last, making sure to refill after each wheel.

    Changing brake fluid

I haven't had the top off of my brake fluid reservoir for four years so I decided to take a look. The level was fine but the fluid is very dark. It would probably be a good idea to change it so can anyone tell me the best way to do that without getting air into the system? Thanks for your time...

    Latest mystery.........

Thanks, the gasket is about a year old and I backed the bolts out but it didn’t seem to make any difference. I’m going to leave it alone for awhile before I go to the trouble to replace it. Too darn hot down here right now.

    Latest mystery.........

The 11 ft-lb came out of my Chilton GM 80-87 shop repair manual. Do you think I should back the hold down bolts a bit to see if that helps or is it too late?

    Nit Picking and Just Curious

Some of you will think I'm just anal but being retired, with ample time on my hands, I just want everything operating the way it was designed to, or better. So here's the latest: I've recently noticed that after running an errand, when I return to the truck and start it, I see a puff of black...

    Latest mystery.........

Could raising the operating temperature (180 to 195) of the engine make it run a little richer, not quite as much as Elon ? Should I try turning the air/fuel mixture screws maybe a quarter turn and which direction do I need to turn to lean it out a little?

    Latest mystery.........

Thanks Snoots. The temp sensors come with the tape on them and I don’t see how 11 ft lbs could crack the carb base sitting on a thick gasket.

    Latest mystery.........

So, everything has been going well, truck running good so I decided to reinstall the original 195 degree thermostat and put in a new temperature sender to get a more accurate reading. While under the hood, I thought it would be a good idea to check the Q-jet mounting nuts and torque to 11...

    Anti theft devices

This is a normally closed valve. Doesn't it seem best to have it normally open (not energized) and only close it with the hidden switch when you leave the truck? I park mine in a secure garage at home and would not have to close the valve.

    Anti theft devices

I have found a valve that is manufactured by DC Electric which may work well for gasoline. I have submitted an inquiry to them and when I'm through, I'll let everyone know what I have found, hopefully by tomorrow.

    Anti theft devices

Okay, so install a normally open solenoid wired to a hidden toggle switch and when you leave the truck, just flip the switch and the valve closes? Will water, air, or diesel work with gasoline?
