Post your experiences buying auto parts from summit racing and other places

I have bought stuff from Summit, LMC, JC Whitney, Treadwright, Inline Tube, and CCP, and had great experiences with all of them. CCP was a big order, disc brake conversion for my '69 C10 stepside. Guess I've been lucky!

    Thermostatic air cleaner repair

Ok, 1987 G.M.C. 350, TBI. I just got this truck and I am trying to get her to run right. The flap on my air cleaner doesn't open up when I apply heat to it. I took it off and used a hair dryer to test it. This one does not have the vacuum set up on it. I guess it has the wax thingy (yes...

    Salad bowl mod

Yes but it doesn't have that round end on the plunger, just a thin rod end. I also see that mine doesn't have any provisions for a vacuum motor or temp sensor.

    Salad bowl mod

I don't have a vacuum line so I'll try the hair dryer trick. Edit: Ok, I don't see anything that would resemble a wax filled pot. All I see a plastic cover that covers a tube that looks like it pushes the flap. I tried working it with the hai dryer but it di not open.

    Salad bowl mod

Ah! I see how it works. Thank you. How important is the heat riser/flapper for the TBI? Not sure if mine is working correctly. This is my first GM truck with TBI.

    Salad bowl mod

I keep hearing how people do a salad bowl mod on their air cleaner but can't find any info on how to do it. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

    Oil, Filters, and Changes

My cam was wiped out in less than 50 miles. Used the assembly lube and broke the cam in properly. Gotta use the right stuff so you don't end up redoing everything!

Post your ideal (bolt on) square setup!

383 torquer crate engine ( if they're built any more), built 700r4, Dana 60 front axle, corporate 14 bolt ff rear, 4:10 gears, 33s, cowl hood, and a nice black paint job. Nothing crazy but it would make me very happy!!

    Tire question

I ran B.F.G. ATs on my '79 G.M.C. 2500 and on '88 Dodge Ram and love them. I am currently running Falken Wildpeaks ATs on my '99 Dakota. They also are good. Neither tire is great in deep mud or rocks but for a d.d. I like them both. With my G.M.C. I just picked up I may try the B.F.G. Rugged...

    Oil, Filters, and Changes

I found out the hard way not using ZDDP in my engine after a cam swap. Wiped out the lobe on a nice Comp Cam.

What have you done to your square lately??

Took out the bench seat and pull the rubber mat and all the old, nasty insulation out. Vacuumed up years of dirt and dog hair.

    Build Sheet Location?

I found one under the floor mat of my '88 Ram.

What have you done to your square lately??

Just bought it so I got her in front of my garage to go through it. If it only would warm up and stop snowing!!

    New York Noob!

Hey all! Just found this site. I have had all kinds of trucks over the years, the first being a 1980 C-10, to a 1969 Power Wagon, an '79 G.M.C. 2500, '88 Dodge Ram, to my current d.d. '99 Dakota. I just picked up a 1987 G.M.C. Stepside 4X4, 350, auto. Real happy to get another square body...
