OK, so I have a bit more shopping to do, I'm waiting till this weekend to get the super flush stuff to do the heater core (payday) so I guess I'm going to get another one of those lower block fittings, (I found the last one on ebay) and figure out what to do about a pump ...I think I might be...

    Radiator question?

ok, thanks, just wanted to make sure I was pulling the correct plugs before i did any more, I had heard horror stories about getting those plugs out, and mine came right out, no problem at all. my next question is, can I back flush through those lower drain ports without wrecking anything...

    Radiator question?

ok, back on subject ..... I'm getting the block ready to flush out, I removed the thermostat and chucked it, and I removed those two 1/4 npt block drain plugs (with the 9/16 head), but it would appear that either I pulled the wrong plugs, or I pulled the correct plugs and the bottom of the...

    Radiator question?

that's exactly what happened with my subaru, I ran it all summer using the AC, then one night (about a week ago) I get off work really late, close to midnight, and have my first chance at using the heater on my drive home, and when I turned it on, it was blowing cold, that's when I knew that...

    Radiator question?

it's kind of interesting when you stop and think about it, you have filters for your fuel, you have filters for your oil, you even have a filter for the air sucked in through the intake, but no one ever thinks of a filter for the cooling system ....

    Radiator question?

yup, that's all it is, garden hose ends, and the filter is what you use for a washing machine supply line. as far as the bigger filters, I use those to, I just haven't posted pictures of them yet ...there's two main manufacturers, Gano out of California, and Tefba out of Australia, I use both...

    Radiator question?

here's a little contraption I'm going to be putting on the truck, this is a coolant filter that goes in the inlet line going to the heater core, I got the idea from the Mustang forums, it keeps all the junk particles that are floating throughout the cooling system from getting into the heater...

    Radiator question?

ok, I need to pick up some of that Prestone Super flush, and some sort of adapter so I can hook up the garden hose to that top 3/4 inch heater core fitting. I also want to address doing a thorough back flush of the block, including flushing out the two lower drain ports on the block.

    Radiator question?

hahahaha ...."like a boss" ...hahaha .....I should put that on my facebook page! ok, I'm flushing the heater core, not sure if I got it flowing the correct direction, but I can tell you, a whole lot of really nasty crud has come out of it.

    Radiator question?

yup, you had it right, that ovan cleaner is unbeliveable, thanks for the suggestion ... ok, next step in the cooling system over haul, and I need a little help with this one although I think I might know the answer. the first thing I'm going to do is back flush the heater core, I've already...

    Radiator question?

the model number for that radiator is an American Eagle AE161, and it happens to fit a variety of cars, (almost all being GM) I went shopping on ebay using the key words "ae161 radiator" that's how I ended up buying the one for the bel air, it happened to be the cheapest in on there and a direct...

    Radiator question?

whoa, I like that idea, the gauge would be highly accurate, but the price would probably be high, I just paid 34 bucks for the Mr. gasket thermometer. the one I run in the Subaru has done fine and seems to give me fairly accurate temperature readings. I haven't forgotten about my little...

    Radiator question?

I'll keep you posted on how it goes, I've been busy on some other car projects today, a Volvo with a bad serpentine belt, a subaru with a couple of flat tires, (that will teach me to go 4 wheeling on bald tires) so it may be next weekend before I get to work on the truck. the radiator comes...

    Radiator question?

here's the blocked row of bottom tubes. i think the radiator was worth the price and is pretty much, and exact replacement for the old 3 row i took out of the truck

    Radiator question?

yup, I definitely need to get crank'n on this truck. here come some more pictures of the new vs old radiators. one of american eagle claims to fame is that their radiators have more rows of cooling tubes then the copper brass counterparts, so I counted the tubes in both radiators, and...

    Radiator question?

Hey, guess what the fed-ex dude just dropped off? apparently, the little woman had other plans for me today, so we're getting ready to leave to take the dog on a hike, so hopefully I can get into this cooling system revamp later today or maybe tomorrow, I'll get pics of both radiators (old...
