    Bad Combo?

Ya the castings. Some times you can tell from the pattern on the front of the heads. Good chance you have swirl port heads. If you could get a cheep set like $200 for a complete set than I would say get some iron L98 heads. There a 64cc chamber, have 1.94 intake valves, bolt to your existing...

    Bad Combo?

I have modified quiet a few motors and duel exhaust even duel 2.25 is better than single 3 I don't care what any one says. Camaros only do this due to clearance issues. Of it was a good thing for power people would run single exhaust in racing. Duel 2.5 would be good for a mild motor. If you...

Best stock head and Aftermarket cam combo

The springs for that comp cam will not fit the heads. I built a vortec motor. It has about 10 miles on it. The inside of the valve spring boss is .9" so unless the cam can be used with the stock springs its not cheep to machine and swap springs. Might as well go with a different head. I would go...

    Power lagging

^Had the same problem with an old Rochester once. Could not lean it out for the life of me.

    Crate engine swap advise please?

Dam this post went far. I have been away for a wile. Looking back at like the bottom of page 6 though... Ya getting it tuned rite might yield the results he is after. Has to figure that out anyways as he might have the same problem with a new motor too. 24 pages is just too much for me to read...

    Crate engine swap advise please?

I have my idle around 13.5 I tried it leaner but it was a dog just off idle.

    Bad Combo?

Edelbrock#350-2104PK This is the kit I would use to make it carbureted. I would add minimum valve springs and a timing chain to this kit. Its under Jegs easy kits under the edelbrock section.

Long tube or short tube headers?

I would go long tubes. Most people who are running manifolds are not doing it for torque there doing it cuz they don't like header leaks. If you want low RPM torque get a set with 1.5" primaries but if your swapping to a larger cam I would get the 1 5/8 primaries. I am doing the whole exhaust...

    Power lagging

I would start at the distributor and adjust your base timing with your car idling around 750 RPM and the vacuum to the distributor disconnected and plugged at the carburetor. Adjust your timing to get the highest vacuum reading. Next adjust your idle mixture screws tell you get the highest...

    Bad Combo?

Edelbrock has a performer package for around $700 I would add about $300 to that for a few little things like valve spring, timing chain, gaskets and a few other misc parts. Should put you in the 250 HP range and wake your truck up with out loosing much in the bottom end if any. Good bang for...

    Spring help

Could just do a small lift with soft ride springs. I think the lowest ones are 2" or 2.5" and than do a lift block in the rear to match the front. I think it would require you to get new shocks though.

    Coil spring spacers

^ I agree with the above. Drop the rear to match the front.

    Lowering questions??

Man I am curious too. I use to have a 3/4 ton 2WD I wanted to lower once and never did. Would love to now for future if I could just swap 1/2 ton suspension on to a 3/4 ton truck. I don't think I ever found drop spindles. I hate lowering springs. I hope some one can answer this.

    4" lift modifications

If it was me I would have the drive line modified to take up the difference. I would go to a shop and ask how much it would cost. Cant be too much.

Chevy 357 horse power torque numbers

Don't know the duration numbers but if there stock heads with 2.02 I would not expect over 350 HP. That seams to be were stock heads drop off even with 2.02 valves. Usually stock heads don't make over 400 FTLBs but it might be closer to 350 FTLBS if you have a lot of duration.

    questions..head work, cam sizes...etc

I would step up about 10* on both intake and exhaust to the summit 1103 cam. I would not bother with the head work. I have a similar cam but roller in my Camaro. The motor is about to go in my C20 soon. Here is a sound clip. The cam wont quite sound like this as it will have a little milder idle...

Vortec Heads vs OEM SBC Old School Heads

I had screw in studs installed when I had my vortecs machined for springs and it was $580 total. They had to machine down the valve guide boss. If I would have pulled my own studs and disassembled and assembled my heads my self it would have cost about half that. Still not cheep. Love the...

    What to build

Ya true... No point in having a lot of HP if you don't have a good transmission behind it. I have this problem with my Camaro rite now and it sucks.

Comments. go with a crate or rebuild the orig 305 block

Don't get the L31 if you want to do a cam swap in the future.

Comments. go with a crate or rebuild the orig 305 block

I like greenscots idea I have the L31 and am putting it in my truck soon. It is modified so I cant tell ya much about its performance in stock form but I do think it is the best deal as far as crate motors go. It was under 2K to my door. Lots of advancements over the 260 HP crate motor but not...

Comments. go with a crate or rebuild the orig 305 block

The GM 260 HP crate motor. It will add power, its new and it will be about as much as doing a full rebuild in the end if you have machine work done to the 305.

    New Exhaust ?

I just ordered a pre bent system today from hooker. I got mine for headers but they have them for exhaust manifolds too. I think there around $225 for manifold back system. The header back system is under $200 shipped to your door from summit. The system is only 2 1/4" but is mandrel bent. Flow...

    Crate engine swap advise please?

I think MadOrge has best advice for ya. I would get motor you have tuned proper. If you don't already have one I would get a vacuum gage. It will help with tuning. I would get one you can mount some were you can read it while in the truck while you drive. Use the vacuum gage for timing and your...

    More HP or lower gears?

"However, good heads (with 170-180 cc intake runners) and a mild roller cam can give your 350 the best of both worlds." I would rather have heads that were a little too large over a cam that was a little to large though. 400HP takes a lot of cam or a lot of head. You would need a cam with about...
