where i live is a small town and the MTO (ministry of transportation) people are very friendly. Even the cops are decent. Last time i registered a vehicle, i was short 5 bucks and the MTO lady covered it for me.
im doing a 2wd to 4wd cab swap also. my original cab was 4wd. the hump was stamped into the floor. cut it out and weld or bolt it into new cab. think simple. they did when they built these. alot nicer to work on then the new stuff out there. in my opinion anyways.
tremclad is owned by rustoleum. all i did was hammer and chisel big pieces of rust off, then wire wheel the frame on a grinder. applied paint heavily (frame soaked up alot). looks decent. would do it again.
had wife and kids (6 and 2.5) help clean frame last night. applied tremclad and i'm pretty happy with how it looks. used on many trailors with no problem, so we'll see
anybody in the snowbelt used por15 or dom16 and how are the results? heard of issues with peeling even after following the instructions exactly. torn between that and regular tremclad
i want a 6" lift but wife wants 4". Easier to agree with her then piss her off, i think. won't be more than 4". Next truck might be bigger. Then i'll give her this one.
appreciate the advice. 4" is the highest i'm going to go. New springs from a spring shop are $700. Aftermarket are closer to $1300. I dont know how you guys in the states are getting them for $600. maybe i'm calling the wrong suppliers. Shipping auto parts across the border kills us $ wise...
the HT 383 crate from GM is rated at roughly 450 ft.lbs. Big block territory. i will regear later but right now im focusing on getting truck built again. now is a bare frame
whats the difference between aftermarket springs and getting new springs from a spring shop that does only that. build and install springs. i would think they know what they're doing. i've dealt with this spring shop before for other vehicles, but this is my first square and i trust what they say
talked to guy at spring shop again. he said 3.5" lift with arching wont effect the geometery of the steering. wont need a drop pitman arm or change driveline angles. replace broken spring, add a leaf and arch for $700 canadian. i think thats like $600 american now isnt it?
i've got a p.o.s. 91 ford for the mud. i hate it so i dont mind pounding the $#it out of it. the one im building now is to replace my 02 sierra as a daily driver. keep 02 for a winter beater
