uphill, downhill, side to side. No crack too tight no gap too wide! If i can step across it, i can weld it up. From a broken heart to the crack of dawn ... i have a rod for every job!
Wow ... great info! thanks for all the replies!
I had already planned on replacing the steering box with a new 2WD version. For the steering, i will probably go with a kit from ORD or other but im staying with the 1 ton TRE, not heim joints (dont need them and cant grease them).
I am fed...
they go on dry. I run them on every vehicle i can. they do a great job for sealing as long a you clean the surface really well for the initial install. i always hit the sealing surface with a wire wheel on a grinder and then wipe it off 15 times with brake cleaner. havent had one leak yet...
Its no secret that push pull steering is .... effective. It is not, however, perfect.
the front end of my truck needs all new steering linkages, the power steering box is sloppy and leaking, and i want to put in a XJ steering shaft ..... i would like to go with a crossover steering setup ...
I read through this entire thread and i didnt see this mentioned anywhere .... buuuuuuut ....
what is the weight rating on your tires? dropping a cummins on a load range C tire will definitely cause steering to feel loose ... been there, done that.
I would guess you need a load range D ... or...
I honestly didnt realize it was that tall. Im a sucker for more gears though... i love driving the 6 speed wrangler. it just feels right.
The other issue with the ZF is its length. the sm465 comes in at about 19.25" from bellhousing to rear output mating surface and the ZF is (reported...
I am in a different boat, but considering the same options. I have an '84 K3500 crew cab 454 w sm465 (bombproof, but super wide ratios and no overdrive).
I considered the gearvendors O/Udrive ..... but $3.1k plus another $500 for a new driveshaft is a lot. $3600 is a lot...
I want to to keep...
Blasphemy!
I dig it!
Right! gotta represent!
I just have to figure out where to put mine ... headache rack on the flat bed, and the welder cover up the back window.
yep ... My 83 C 1500 is the same way. 35 years of rats and farm hands cutting splicing and gluing wires together ... NOTHING works on that truck. Im not even going to bother trying to fix anything on that one until the wiring is replaced 100% ... melted and burnt wires all over the place.
yup ... it has me stumped. The only thing i can think of is that the isolator was some how letting voltage bleed back so the meter was measuring both batteries.
like i said ... electrical work is wizardry to me ... i just dont understand it all that well.
That is definitely on the list. I plan on rewiring this truck 100% (Hoping to wait until summer) so get rid of the hacked up rats nest that is the current wiring. When i do that, all the ground straps and battery cables will be replaced and or upgraded.
Hell, when i rewired my welder (1968...
got the truck fired up and back home. No idea what is going on with it. There was ZERO power anywhere on the truck (checked the alternator, starter, and junction block) except right at the battery and at the battery isolator.
I piddled with it poking and prodding around trying to try to make...
Thanks for taking your time to help me out. I looked over the 84 schematics and i found the fusible links coming off the starter and the junction block ... that only took me about an hour and a half.
kinda feeling like captain oblivious, here.
Ill definitely use the heater blower trick...
that would be great man. it wont be until about 445 my time (Mountain) ... you will have to talk to me like an idiot, real small words and you might have to repeat them.
Side post batteries, i checked connections at the batteries but did not check connections at the isolators, etc. ill...
ill take some 10g to work tomorrow and see what i can get going. ill try one at a time to see if i can narrow down which side needs work.
which fuses should i check to help narrow things down?
I was too frustrated to think clearly and actually check what i should have checked .... so i dont know if there was power to the junction block or the alternator. I can check those tomorrow though, as i did leave the DVOM in the truck, which is what i used to verify battery voltage.
I can...
