Uh-oh: Dead Battery- one missing from Dual setup

Yup. I'm pretty amazed it lasted as long as it did, especially since the carb leaks down and does the "no gas crank" if it's parked for more than a day. Picked up an O'reilly house brand "Super Start Extreme" at 850 CCA, with a $20 mail in rebate from the coupon section at the counter. It...

Uh-oh: Dead Battery- one missing from Dual setup

Aha! Think I found the problem. Looks like the battery is not correct for the primary location. I'm guessing the PO took the bigger battery out before I first looked at the 'burb. Nice. :wtf2: :flame: It does seem to be taking a charge. We'll see what it looks like in the morning. -Josh

Uh-oh: Dead Battery- one missing from Dual setup

I'm about to throw the battery on my charger overnight and see if it holds a charge. Phoenix seems to be pretty rough on batteries- I know I've gone through a bunch in my other vehicles since I moved out here 3+ years ago.

Uh-oh: Dead Battery- one missing from Dual setup

So missing or dead battery in the secondary spot isn't causing the alternator to work too hard or overcharge the primary battery, correct? I like the fuse and extra ground suggestions. I've done similar on a couple of my other older cars.

Uh-oh: Dead Battery- one missing from Dual setup

OK, so the battery on my '86 Burb bit the dust this morning. Luckily I had other options for getting to work. Here's my question: It only has one of the 2 batteries under the hood (the one on the Driver side has been missing since I got it) and has always seemed a little sluggish to crank...

    What was your first Vehicle?

1940 Pontiac Torpedo 8 Sport Coupe. Bought when I was 14 with money from mowing lawns, odd jobs, and later modded with money working at a gas station. I never actually drove it. The first thing I did when I got it home was tear off the front fenders and pull the motor. I spent a lot of my...

What have you done to your square lately??

Niiiiiice. Look like you're on track with a plan, judging from the chassis pics. It's gotta be nice seeing a project come together like that. -Josh

Post your toys, square or not

Yeah. Still not sure if I'm gonna keep it, but I couldn't pass on it at the price the guy was asking. I bought it from the nephew of the original owner, who got it after the original owner passed. It has 48k original miles. It has the 455- I think almost all the 225s did in 1976. He was...

What have you done to your square lately??

Some quick work on the '86 Burb this afternoon. Changed the fuel filter, added the rear 2 bolts to the junk carb and plugged up all the open vacuum ports I could find. I now have a relatively driveable 'Burb and not a driveway ornament! :peace::peace::peace::peace: Diesels like a M*tha...

    Edelbrock Q-Jet?

Well, looks like I'll be using the Edelbrock Q-Jet on the 'Burb. I spent a good bit of time on the phone with these guys... http://www.cliffshighperformance.com/index.html and from our conversation and going over the P/Ns and conditions of the various carbs I have, they told me that the...

OK, 'burb guys- Roof Rack and Spoiler questions

I'd think mileage boost. I'd be interested to see a before / after with the rear deflector and front air dam... -Josh

OK, 'burb guys- Roof Rack and Spoiler questions

I'll keep my eye out at the yards if you're interested. A rear deflector should be small enough to ship in a tube, but I'm guessing that a roof rack would be oversize even broken down. -Josh

    Edelbrock Q-Jet?

It's pretty trashed. The PO had mentioned that the carb was a rebuilt which he put on recently. Cold started and drove great on the test drive. When the PO delivered the truck at the Title place, all the emissions stuff was torn off and plugged. He claims he wanted to make it "run better by...

OK, 'burb guys- Roof Rack and Spoiler questions

Thanks. I've got lots of other stuff to do before I have time to mess around with it, just trying to get a feel for whether it would be a "value added" type of deal if I go to sell the truck later. I personally like the look. I know when I was playing with older station wagons a while back it...

    Edelbrock Q-Jet?

I'm probably gonna use the "new" Q-Jet to start. Looks like rebuild kits for the Edelbrock Q-Jet run about $30-40 online, so I'll probably grab a kit and freshen it up as a backup. I've been looking for an hour or so trying to find out what the actual differences are, and although the Edelbrock...

OK, 'burb guys- Roof Rack and Spoiler questions

Hey guys- Picked up a real good condition roof rack, rub strip set, and rear air deflector yesterday in a package deal with some other parts. I have a few questions... -Does anybody know if they make a reproduction gasket set for these? A few of the gaskets turned to crumbs when we took...

    Edelbrock Q-Jet?

Nope, not a typo. Craigslist find- picked it up in a package deal along with a basically brand new Q-jet and a good used Q-Jet. Anybody had experience with these? I vaguely remember playing with one back in the mid 90's, but I didn't have the car for long. It says it's a 795 cfm on the box...

Nice. I'm in Phoenix too, just joined up after buying an '86 Suburban. Moved out here from N. Florida about 4 years ago. PM me if you want to get together some weekend and hit the junkyards, or just shoot the shit. -Josh

Just bought an '86 C20 Suburban

Well, it definitely has a vac advance on the distributor. I'm guessing from the codes that it's the original carb. The PO said he had just put a new carb on it recently. I'm thinking he decided to keep the new one and threw the old one back on. :greenchainsaw:
