    1968 crewcab

I not sure why you all say it is not worth the 6,000. Even though it doesn't have a motor or a transmission sure as hell doesn't devalue it 5,000 dollars. The trend of todays trucks are definitely crew cabs, To be totally honest I have NEVER even seen a CC in that era truck. Also given the...

    any special tools?

Good advice above. Don't worry about buying any specialty type pullers or anything right now, you can borrow those from the parts stores for free. 1 other tool that is very useful to have is a vacuum gauge. Spark testers are nice at times but not a must have. Your skillset will most likely...

    A/C questions

That was all very well said. Only thing I would have mentioned is: You NEED to have the System Vacuumed down BEFORE you start jumping the switch. With out having it sucked down your doomed to have higher pressures, plus its going to be harder then hell to get the system fully charged with...

    Help with misfire at IDLE

I am not sure I follow on the rubber gloves. Can you please explain the concept of what it is suppose to be doing? It seems like your wanting to plug the leak on the exhaust and the intake and force the leak out of the radiator? I am afraid your correct, My money is on cracked head inbetween...

    Help with misfire at IDLE

Yea I know all about the recall, I have replaced hundreds of the spider assembly's. I have already done the conversion not long after I got moved sown here. I was able to get the leak down test done after work today. I cant say really how accurate the percentage of leak down is because my...

    Help with misfire at IDLE

No I have not tried that. I am going to do a leak down test on it tomorrow after work. depending on what I find from the test I will try your suggestion and maybe even do the leak down test again afterwards if it turns out to be leaking thru the valves. Will definitely keep you all posted on...

    Help with misfire at IDLE

Although these trucks do have a crappy plastic distributor in them, Mine has already been changed to a billet distributor. On these trucks when the distributor is bad the misfire's will usually spread around from cylinder to cylinder, the misfire on this truck is staying on #6. I would agree...

    Help with misfire at IDLE

Ok first let me say the truck I am dealing with is a 1996 Chevy K1500, 5.7L Vortec, Automatic Transmission. It is kind of a long story but here it goes. Considering my old motor was loosing oil pressure and was down on power, and I was moving from Missouri to Texas. I swapped in a used...

Where to get power for tach...?

I agree with C4 I would want to use an ignition hot source aswell. Like someone already stated make sure you use some type of Fuse Protection. As for a test light yes you can remedy one out of a light socket, illuminated rocker type switch, ect... Or you could go to the Parts store and pick one...

Where to get power for tach...?

Simple solution would be to connect a testlight to ground, then probe the terminal you are wanting to use, if it lights up then that is a 12v source.

    bearing buddies

Personally I am NOT a fan of any external greasing methods. If you are forcing NEW grease in to the hub then the old grease has to go somewhere, which is out the back of the hub past the seal. Keep in mind the seal has 2 jobs 1 to keep grease inside the hub, and 2 to keep moisture and...

    Gear ratio for 700r4???

3.08's and a 700r4? i would not expect good mileage with that setup, try 3.73's. higher ratio is not always the key to mileage.

    Gear ratio for 700r4???
