Just bought a 2017 Sierra Denali CCSB

Yup. One big killer of gas mileage on the highway is that the throttle plate is almost closed, so vacuum is high, and stack velocity in the runners is down. DOD solves those issues. And unless you have the display on, you wouldn't know. I suspect it's noisier in V4, because the DOD has...

Just bought a 2017 Sierra Denali CCSB

Took the new truck on a 575-mile loop last Thursday: Bloomington, IN to Naperville, IL, to Champaign, IL, to Blooomington, IN. Mostly Interstate driving at 76-77 mph indicated (figure actual is one to two mph slower, per the construction site radars), with some local driving in each location...

Just bought a 2017 Sierra Denali CCSB

That's true. As for off-roading, it has yaw and pitch displays (angles L-R, and F-R) that can be displayed on the instrument panel. It also has a "steep hill descent" function that acts as a slow speed cruise control for going down hills. When turned on, it will maintain a speed between 5 and...

Well, it does have ABS, and traction control, and stability control, so the computer does mess around with the brakes to try to make it do what you are asking it to do -- stop, go, and go straight.

Just bought a 2017 Sierra Denali CCSB

One other note. There are 2WD and 4WD Sierras/Denalis. None are AWD. The Denali version 4WD does have an "Automatic" mode, in which it runs the transfer case in 4WD, and then electrically locks the front hubs if you spin the rears. You can also run it in 2WD, 4WD, 4LOW, and Neutral for...

Just bought a 2017 Sierra Denali CCSB

Yeah, it's the 6.2l L86. Kind of a no-brainer there. The L86 is standard on the Yukon Denali, I believe. but not the Sierra Denali. It says premium fuel is recommended, and that it won't get the same mileage and performance on regular. But the way it's worded, if there's no premium around...

"Working Girl" post index & goodbye: I've bought a new truck

I didn't even know there was an Other Vehicles section. I never get up that way. Anyways, pics are posted: http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?p=341660#post341660

Just bought a 2017 Sierra Denali CCSB

I picked it up this morning, and I've already made the first mod, a Revolver tonneau cover. And I also had them take the POS OEM tires off and put Michelin Premier LTXs on it. I can't help it. It's a sickness.

"Working Girl" post index & goodbye: I've bought a new truck

Well, I know I can hang out here even without a square, but it's helping people out that makes it fun for me, and I don't have the reference vehicle to check stuff on. So I don't know. We'll see. No name yet. Those things take a while to gel. Actually, most of the posts were posted on all...

"Working Girl" post index & goodbye: I've bought a new truck

Well, it's time to take my leave as an active participant here. I've bought a new truck, and will be selling Working Girl. I've just gotten to the age where I want (and need) the comfort and conveniences of a modern vehicle. I bought a 2017 Sierra 1500 Denali CCSB with the 6.2l. As I take...

In this order: 1) Move the vacuum advance from ported vacuum to manifold vacuum. 2) Lean out the idle. 3) Advance the timing.

    Timing??

Here's some reading for you. http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14508 Be interesting to see which vacuum can is on it. Look down at the bracket between the vacuum can and the distributor cap (use an inspection mirror or take a pic with the cellphone) and look for the markings...

The gmsports one comes out nice. I like the modern numerals in my 78 because they are larger. I moved the brake indicator lamp over to the other side. http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10062 http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=28547.0

    Cam suggestions L31-R

No, that's OK. What I really know is the flat-tappet cams for the SBCs. The BBCs and the roller cam stuff I don't have any experience with. But I'm happy to help with some pointers. Those sites I linked have all the discussion the OP could want.

    Rebuilding 350

Yeah, I did the air-gap manifold first, but winter performance and mileage sucked, so I worked out how to mount a warm-air induction system on headers. The air-gap with cold-air induction is your best-performing manifold in hot weather, because you get the densest charge. In the winter, you...

Tune up specs for the frankenstein truck...

Yeah, mechanical advance should be about 20 degrees, so you want base timing of 18* BTDC to give 38 total. Or you can just check the timing at 2500 rpm and aim at 38* BTDC at that rpm.

As far as the cam, read the threads above! Everything you want to know is there. I've written it once already. 2101 fits the Qjet and will work fine. The 2601 will work a bit better in hot weather but *must* have a thermac air cleaner or it will suck big time in the cold.

OK, that should be the 67cc chambers with the big valves. Nice. That should be nominally a 9.3:1 compression ratio with stock pistons, but Chevy overstates them by about .5, building in some carbon buildup or something. Anyway, those are probably the best heads of that series. Similar to the...

    Timing is way off...

Last paragraph first. That just means the disti was stabbed in the wrong place to get the normal 5:00 position. No issue there. Let me understand. You set the timing to 12* BTDC with the vacuum disconnected. With the vacuum back connected, you read between 30 and 38 degrees BTDC at idle...
