    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

There seems to be a built-in little shield on the drive shaft right in front of where the bearing sits. There is nothing towards the rear. I will send a picture of it later today.

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

ok so i got a new bearing cause i damaged the other a little on disassembly. It came with a little spacer but no removable covers like the last one. No instructions for install in either. Should I just install the more open side towards the front where there is a little dust cover built into the...

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

Also does anyone know where you can get the threaded dust cap that goes on the driveshaft right behind this bearing?

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

pressed off the bearing today. Here is a pic. None of those dust covers fit snuggly into the bearing and are free to move around the driveshaft. Any idea how these are supposed to be installed?

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

hmm it doesn't seem like those metal fittings press on or thread on to any part of the drive shaft or center bearing. I will have to take the drive shaft off to investigate further

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

Ok well what about it being upside down or not? Most of the pictures ive seen are with it installed a different way. Just want to make sure this doesnt fall apart after a few more miles on the road. Guess I will take it apart to get the dust cover right at the least

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

Those dust covers just move completely freely and do not seem to press on. At speed over 20-30 they make a loud clinking sound

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

It should be the right one. I initially bought a unit that was to small and had to order another from rock auto. I will have to take the drive shaft out and press it off if I remember correctly. It doesnt look upside down though correct?

    Center/carrier bearing orientation - 76 C20 suburban

Heard a clinking noise while running around testing the new build/motor. I think the culprit is the dust guard moving around that I put on the new carrier bearing I installed. Not sure If I was supposed to include that but any ideas on how its supposed to be installed? I could maybe epoxy it...

mark 4 454 engine oil cooler lines

Thanks for the advice fellas. nvrenuf, ill probably keep this vehicle forever so I might as well. Ricko, I like that idea of using the power steering hose with the an fittings. thinking 1/2 inch or -8 AN sounds close to the original size hose/fitting. Just read this article...

mark 4 454 engine oil cooler lines

Thanks man I will check that out. What do y’all think of making a AN fitting to adapt to it? seems pretty simple just looking into it.

mark 4 454 engine oil cooler lines

I’m pretty sure they were the hydraulic style but I will check. There’s a chance the fitting could be long gone. Do y’all know the approximate length of the lines if I just get some new ones made?

mark 4 454 engine oil cooler lines

I have a auxillary oil cooler on the 76 454 and need to replace the lines that go from the oil filter adapter to the cooler. After a pretty good search it seems that no one makes a repop so I guess I have to make my own. Any suggestions on fittings / hose type to use? Should I get AN fittings...

    Rocker tip alignment big block

Searched this and some other forums and get multiple answers. mostly the exhaust roller rocker tips do not seem centered on the valves. First big block build. It will be a 461". Pretty sure I got geometry correct with the smallest tip pattern on valve when measuring pushrod length. These are...

Sorry for the typo yes I did mean it is probably somewhere around 0.005.

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Its hard to quantify the actual depth of the defects. My guess is maybe 0.05 inch. No more than 0.01 inch. Think this is still acceptable? What depth would be in good faith to run?

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Yes, there is depth to the defects. You can tell the darker areas are lower than the polished part of the journal when you run your finger over it. There are just no sharp edges.

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Starting to mike the crankshaft bore and journals to check for runout/oil clearance when I noticed this blemish on one of the rod journals. Have no Idea if the engine ran with this or if it happened at the machine shop or during transport/storage. It looks more like some kind of breakdown or...

1976 C20 Burb: 3/4 ton fuel system and EVAP

Interesting that some 3/4 ton came with it and some did not. I think in this case I will try running a short fuel hose from the third metal line on the sending unit ending it somewhere near the filler neck or rear of the vehicle. Will top it with a rollover vent valve such as...

1976 C20 Burb: 3/4 ton fuel system and EVAP

Starting to plan the fuel system and am trying to find out if my truck ever came with the EVAP canister/system. I have read one thread on another forum that states up to 1983 3/4 ton vehicles were considered heavy duty and did not come with the charcoal canister. Those vehicles reportedly came...
