Questions about turning a Burb into a 4 door pickup

The goal would be something like one of these: The reason? I need a pickup bed for carrying fuel and supplies. Don't want to carry them inside, and don't want to carry them externally or on the roof. The questions I have are related to the body work involved. Cutting, alignment, and what not...

    88 Burb: Increasing Fuel Capacity

Yep, have barn doors. I'll look for those brackets, might be a good compromise.

    88 Burb: Increasing Fuel Capacity

Really in the end I think it'll be simpler just to carry gas cans. I was hoping somebody knew of a relatively straightforward way to build, but it's not to be.

    88 Burb: Increasing Fuel Capacity

So, this big burb needs more range. 40 gallons is good, but I'd like to have another 10 gallons somewhere. Yes, I could carry gas cans, but if I could stuff it somewhere underneath and then pump into the 40 gallon tank as needed, that would be pretty neat. Any thoughts as to using a tank from...

Locking Hub Body Won't Seal To Hub

Ok here's the thing: with very little grease in the hub body, it wouldn't push in. It's not grease. Yes I may have overloaded it with grease, but that's not the mechanical issue that's keeping it from seating when there's hardly any grease at all. Everything is bone stock.

    I checked, and it's there.

Locking Hub Body Won't Seal To Hub

When I put this back together today, I actually squeezed grease out. And when I removed it, there wasn't much in there (which is why I was in there to begin with). So I really don't think that's the case. I wish it was that easy.

Locking Hub Body Won't Seal To Hub

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's had this problem. I'm strongly considering a pair of new Warn hubs for it. About $160 for the premium ones is not too bad. I figure the hubs are just worn out but I don't really know. And now with one of the bolts broken...

Locking Hub Body Won't Seal To Hub

Hey everyone, for as long as I can remember, this hub has been leaking a little. Recently it's been leaking a lot. I thought the bolts were loose, so I tightened them. One of them snapped. Well, that wasn't it. So today I pulled the hub out and repacked more grease in there, and then...

Second time squarebody owner, looking for some help I’m only 35 one year younger than my truck

If I remember right, that goes to the brake light switch, right above the brake pedal. I could be wrong, and probably am.

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

I drove my 88 Burb from near Olympia WA to Fernley NV, fully loaded with all of my personal belongings in the rig and in a 8x12 UHaul trailer. I've been tracking mileage since the move last year: It's my daily driver. If I were to buy a Burb sight unseen and drive it 700 miles, I'd...

I bought a 1984 and don’t know what to do???

I like the old saying "Run what ya brung!" in other words just keep what you have, work on one thing at a time. If you can, spend some time going around the truck and make a list of things it needs, and then prioritize that list. Then, one thing at a time. New carb is great and all, but what...

1991 gmc suburban stock shock question

I came here to ask the exact same question. It's time for shocks. One of the drivers front shocks let go. Can't really tell, as the other still works. Got a weird oily substance on the driveway one day, then it stopped! They're old yellow shocks that have probably been on there 20 years. I'm...

Ladder Rack as Roof Rack on Suburban?

This became moot when my buddy who helped me move it home decided it would go better on his F-150 pickup, so no we'll be widening it to fit his truck! He can use it for work, which is cool with me :)

Ladder Rack as Roof Rack on Suburban?

I don't have photos, but... squarebody suburban with a ladder rack turned into a roof rack. It would have to be modified of course, but the free one I have access to looks about like this, stolen from Google Images...

Ladder Rack as Roof Rack on Suburban?

Hey everyone, has anybody seen or used an old ladder rack as a roof rack on a squarebody Suburban? I'm picking one up for free- I can use the steel for lots of things regardless, but this seems like an easy way to get a roof rack onto the burb. Or would it look really dumb? Opinions, thoughts...

How much does your square body weigh?

Burb, stock on 31's, half ton. 350, 700r4, 208. Empty w/o me in it, about 5800lbs.

What did you pay for a square

In 2014 I searched all over Washington and Oregon for a straight, rust-free Burb. I found this one- Goodwrench 350 in it, 700R4, half ton, set up for towing. The fella's father in law had owned the rig, and the guy's wife had grown up in the truck. So, it was still in the family. The headliner...

Opening Suburban Barn Doors From The Inside

Hey everyone, My 88 Burb is a combination off-road exploration and camping rig. And daily driver. When I camp, I put a camping mattress down and sleep in the truck. This is great-ish, except for getting in and out. The rear doors are not easy to open from the inside at all. I'd like to install...
