If you were still running the A.I.R. system, the Smog pump and all the associated vacuum hoses and other valves and sensors, those sensors on the thermostat are TVS sensors. Thermo Vacuum Sensor. They open and close based on engine temperature to active or de-activate various valves and sensors...- David King

Thread sealant on header bolts?
The passenger side valve cover should have two holes in it. The one nearest the firewall is for the crankcase breather tube going into the the air filter housing, the other toward the front of the truck is a larger hole that allows oil to be poured into the engine.
