    I believe it has to do with the grain of the cast aluminum doesn't take well to welding. It usually just cracks again in short order. And actually the transfer case, CASE, experiences a tremendous amount of torque. Thus the torque bar on the passenger side!

    I have often thought of running the diesel fuel filter that mounts to the firewall. My only concern with that idea is whether or not the filter media is suited for gasoline or not?

    I wouldn't put that cracked block back in either or spend any money on it! Dart makes good blocks and heads but it will cost you! You could make a 427 SB with a dart block lol I would redo the 78' 350 if it checked out. Bore 30 over and new rotating assembly with flat tops.
